    I meant to say it's NOT unusual for black to have that rusty undercoat. When Bruce was a young pup, there were times he actually had a chocolate tone to his coat. He lost it when he blew his puppy coat. 30 plus years ago many breeders felt that rusty, or even white undercoat was the sign a of a true double, waterproof coat.

    Its so awesome to see that there have been others that went through the same thing with their dog. No matter how long you google search it there is not a whole lot of information of the topic. Not sure if that's bc its so uncommon or bc its not in the breed standard and there is an stigma placed on that dog owner for their dogs pureness or purity.
