    Double trouble

TRAD and REV demonstrate compliance to the chained commands "UP", "SIT" and "STAY" as they remain seated together on this boulder. The Labrador duo remain seated on the boulder until given the command "OFF".

REV (left) and TRAD (right) were trained in tandem for a portion of tonight's session. During their initial "bolding walk", the two Labs were frequently drilled on remote "STOP and SIT" on a single whistle blast as is demonstrated by the lads in this photo. REV has only been in training for one month with no previous training before being entrusted to me for gundog training. REV is coming along very nicely.

REV and TRAD share some quality time in the water as a reward for their focused work during joint training efforts tonight.

Enjoy ye retrievers and grand training to ye all!

    TuMicks,
A"bolding walk" is just as it sounds, a walk designed to make a more bold, self confident retriever trainee. With young pups, I make it like a woodland obstacle course with the pup following me. I walk over logs, stones, low stone walls, through shallow low flow streams and shallow standing water (weather dependent), and I let the dog problem solve to get around obstacles while they are trying to get to me. I opt not to help them much, but rather to succeed on their own in finding a solution to problems. Problems solved are met with lots of verbal praise and edible reward which is gradually phased out. Challenges presented are controlled by me and become gradually more difficult as the K9 gains self confidence and agility.

As a pup gets older and moves toward formal obedience training, I use much of the "bolding walk" to let the dog disipate pent up energy from time spent in the kennel, this resulting in a ramping down of energy and increased focus during the formal obedience session.

    Cheers,
