    Labrador a Roma!

Though a lot of dogs here in the city are of the smallish variety—Dachshunds, Pomeranians, etc.—larger dogs aren't that uncommon. Today I saw a beautiful Greyhound wagging and moaning at an equally beautiful Borzoi (I think). Today—my last day in Rome, always a little nostalgia-inducing, as I both love this city and am eager to get back home—I was wandering around and found this gorgeous Chocolate girl tied up outside a shop while her owners were within (Romans love dogs, and many shops have tie-ups outside so people can tether their dog while they go in to do business).

She was so sweet. I went up for a hello, then hung back and watched her. She wagged happily any time anyone came out with some food (hah!), but then two women came out and she jumped up, all wagging. They untethered her, and she walked home w/ them, off leash (in Rome!), down the cobbles. They turned a corner, and I continued on straight, but the Ciocolata ("Chocolate"—they call them the same, here) girl cast me one last backward glance before she headed off. Such a sweetie, she spotted a Lab lover from afar.

I'm bad when I'm out anywhere, I'll say hi to pretty much any dog I meet, and if it's a Lab, forget about it, I'm saying hi for sure!!!!

cutie! i can't help myself when i'm away either.... esp on Hilton Head, i walk the beach late every afternoon, when the dogs are all out for their swim/run/playtime (off leash after 5 or 6 pm). I see a Lab, and i have to stop and pat!
