    Wow so wonderful you saved her! and I love it when people take in older dogs too! So hats off to you! She is beautiful and I am sure she will be a great family member. For the labs getting along. It took a few months for Hunter to accept Henry here. He wouldn't growl or anything but he would look at him as if to say your still here? He also didn't like going out the door at the same time as Henry or sharing the couch with him. Both are good now though.

    Congratulations on your new girl. She looks lovely. China is a name I wanted for one of our cats but the OH vetoed it, so I'm glad to see it here.

I see borderline bright red /mostly rusty colored. No odor though.
    Yes, when they are in heat the entire area becomes much more vascular and engorged with blood, so it causes a higher risk of hemorrhage during the surgery - best to wait a couple months. It’s only a month early, so I wouldn’t be TOO concerned that she isn’t sticking to her schedule ... I would imagine that stress etc can throw them off. The blood starts out like what you are seeing, but will often change to pink/clear right around when they are ovulating (so approx 10-14 days in for most bitches). Then it usually turns back to dark red and tapers off.

    Have you had a vet look at her since you brought her home? It would probably be a good idea, even if you aren’t having her spayed immediately.

    Annette47--thanks so much for popping onto the thread, I couldn't remember who here has experience like yours...
    Yes I did make her an appointment for Monday evening. I've got to get these ears checked. Her other itching didn't seem so bad last night, I am thinking it's either the grains in some of the treats I had given her or left over itches from any flea bites prior to the K9 advantix.
    I guess it depends on the day of her last heat cycle here because it was October 1 that she began bleeding-when I got her home, which I was thinking was due to stress. She apparently does NOT like car rides. She bites her leash and scratches the floor-clearly is afraid. This we need to fix because this is how I get to the park-and its only a short ride. She is afraid of the ramp too and this needs fixing as well because I cant lift her in & out every time, jumping will not be an option much longer as she is 9 and my Traverse is a bit too high for jumping.

    So- I have no idea how dogs cycles go, but if she were to be due in November-do you go by weeks? Like would be she be due the end of November therefore making this almost 2 months early? I guess I will find out Monday night if there's any worrying to be done..but what kinds of issues can there be with dogs cycles? I read that infection would be a whitish discharge & progress quickly. She seems healthy otherwise. Last night I saw no blood but she was licking herself in the middle of the night.

    Behavior wise she is a doll however I am having an issue: she wakes me up at 5 am wanting to play. My husband leaves early for work and is NOT a light sleeper so I don't worry about that but my dd is a very light sleeper & the tail banging and whining (China is very vocal when she is seeking affection) has woken her up the past few mornings. Today 5:30-6 am she was awake and couldnt go back to sleep. She's 9, sleep is super important. Our house is small the bedrooms are next to each other so my dd hears China crashing around. I have to laugh because this is now day 4 of the early ups and I'm tired but we love her. Dakota meanwhile lays across my legs in bed so chill. No crate for China because there is no need and no room. If she were in a crate she'd do the same thing-wake up wanting to be petted etc. I forget because its been so long-what am I supposed to do here? take her out and go back to bed without giving her attention or ignore her until she settles back down? She does go back to sleep after about 5-10 minutes of me ignoring her but she sure makes a lot of noise in those 5 - 10 minutes. And the tail-I cannot control her emotions LOL
    So here's what I need help with (i am so sorry this is very long)

    -her bleeding too early (though we have an appt Monday I am hoping this doesn't break the bank)
    -her early wake ups
    -her fear of & refusal to use the ramp
    -her fear of riding

    thanks everyone

    heading for coffee---->
