Chutes learned a new trick yesterday.

We missed Chutes so much over the past couple weeks. We've been having so much fun with him since he's been home. DH is happy to have his little buddy home to keep him company while he's working on his college classes... or teach the puppy new tricks. LOL. Hm, how much homework is he actually getting done?

I came home from work yesterday and he had a new trick to show me! I know it's a simple one but it's just so cute. Since they'd been working on it yesterday, Chutes now starts to wave his paw sometimes if he's trying to get your attention or get a treat. He's like, "I know this gets me treats now. Give 'em up!" Lol.

We are just so in love with this little guy. It's been really fun to see DH with him. We've always had a cat, but it was my cat before we met. He likes him, but he's wanted a dog forever and it's just never really been the right time. Now that we're finally at a time and place in our lives to be able to give a puppy a really good home it's been so fun to see him with Chutes. My little robot military man actually has feelings!!! LOL.

Nothing like a cute puppy to get them to bring those feelings out into the light of day!

Here's a fun next step: continue that training with "pound it". If I hold out my open hand for a 'shake' it is for thor's right paw. If I hold it out like a 'pound it' fist, he shakes his left paw. Doing the commands rapid fire is a fun distraction for calming him down and always makes people laugh. I'll use it when we're waiting at the vet, for example (he loooves the vet and gets a little too excited). Shake! Pound it! Pound it! Shake! Shake! Pound it!

Yeah! This is exactly what DH is working towards. That sounds so cute!!! I'd love to see a video of Thor showing his skills.

His "Shake" is for Chutes' left paw. And he's going to do "Pound" for right paw. So just opposite. He's also going to try to work this into into "Sitting Pretty" next.

I have lots of ideas for tricks to teach your dog.

    Linus has:

    - Spin (clockwise) and twist (counter-clockwise)
    - Whack it - paw whack both horizontal and vertical
    - Touch - nose touch/push (he can push a toy shopping cart with is nose, eventually with my friend's little dog in it)
    - Fetch - obviously
    - Hold - again, obviously, but really fun for photos and delivering gifts to people
    - Bounce - train this carefully. We also have a separate cue for bounce which looks like mimicry so I could jump rope with him, but haven't tried it yet.
    - Fly - where he goes around a stationary object like a cone, chair or person
    - Paws up - paws on stationary object
    - Hug and kiss - probably better for an adult dog to learn
    - I'm teaching him wave right now, which is sitting up and doing a high-five - reminds me of a bear

Many of these are useful for training, but some are just for fun. He also brings me his "dinner dishes" and knows the difference between "slippers" and "tennis shoes". Super helpful. He picks the right collars and leashes out of the drawer, too. I thought about teaching him to open the refrigerator but decided that was probably not a good idea.

You are going to have SO MUCH FUN teaching Chutes ALL kinds of tricks.

When I was teaching Gabe his tricks, I used the NILF method and now he too is like a robot. Show him 2 or 3 times what you want and he's got it.

Labs are just so wonderful dogs!!!!!!
