Can't vote multiple times....Lost our dear Debo to bone cancer at almost 12. All the other ones have lived to be 13. We always figured 13 was a pretty good age for big dogs until we came on here and saw how many live to be 15 or older. We're hoping the current crop beat the 13!

The average on the board seems to be between 12 and 13. Females seem to live a bit longer. The two pups I have have now (are my first dogs ever) and are 9 and 3 and I'm hoping for them to be around as long as they are happy and healthy!

Our two labs lived to be 13, one may have been a bit older, but because her age was guestimated at the pound, we're not sure. The vet said our chocolate lab Bo might live only until 10 since he was such a large lab, but he lived more than 3 years longer. They died within 3 weeks of each other, which the vet said is common for some bonded dogs. It was a tough summer...

Potion was 13 when she passed from bladder cancer. Her sire and dam both lived to that age.
Melody is 12 now and her sire and dam lived till 16 and she is still a little spitfire.
Bandit is closing in on 9 and his sire and dam lived till 13.
I think every day past 12-13 for a lab is a gift we need to cherish.

my first lab had just turned 13...he pretty much died of loss of muscle mass; couldn't walk, and doggie alzheimers. i had a terrible time letting him go...he never was sick a day in his life.
my golden followed 9 months later at the age of 12 with lung cancer.

My first lab Max passed on when he was 14. It was 2 years ago, but seems like only yesterday.

My yellow is 11 and going through what yours did, Minus the Alzheimer's, he is healthy as a horse, but his poor legs are going south, and we are in limbo as to when to make that decision (we take it day by day)...My Golden had cancer and died at 14.

My other two, Boston and Lab, will both be 9 in 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, my first lab, Buster, died at the age of 11 when he got bone cancer. I was only 13 at the time, and it was devastating, but I will admit that we did not know as much about dogs then as I do now. I think about all the canned Alpo he ate and all the times I rode him as a two to three year old and wince! Now, I've got Sunny, who is going strong at three years old. I hope she is one of the WOW dogs who lives up to 20 years now that I am older and know so much more about responsible dog care.

Wrigley is still going strong at 4
I voted on the lab of ours that passed away, Cliff
We believe he was around 6, he was adopted and he passed of Lymphoma. RIP my sweet love.
