Look what I found on My Way to work

Was driving to work this morning (missed the train and was already REALLY late) and I'm stopped at a light at a busy road. This little dog was wandering on the sidewalk with no one attached to her. She has no collar, is pretty matted, but otherwise in good condition. Several others stopped and helped me get her and I went around that neighborhood looking for her owner to no avail.

I took her home and took her picture. Went back and put up flyers. Am printing more to take to local vets. And will check to see if she's been microchipped. She's very cute and well behaved, although she hasn't eaten or pottied yet (found her around 10am). I don't have a collar or leash for her so later on today I will go get one.

Also, she stinks so I made her a grooming appt for tomorrow if her owner doesn't call. I hope they do, but am worried she's been dumped. I hope not since she seems very content and healthy. She doesn't like the crate I put her in so she's on the couch on one of the cat's "puffs".

She's a cute little thing. What kind of dog do you think she is? I know nothing about the little breeds.

I think she might be a maltese?

awww....she's a cutie!!

I dont know much about small breeds, but you would think that if she hadnt been dumped but was accidently lost, that her hair wouldnt be quite so long..

Im thinking she should have a shorter "do"...

so....how do you feel about "small, cute dogs"???

Aw, she's a cutie, despite the unkempt hair.

This surprised me. When I found a badly matted and stinky GR no groomer would take her because I could not prove vaccination, rabies in particular. And since I found the dog in our rabies "hotspot" ..... Do the groomers know she is not your dog? Would be a shame to schedule and then find they won't take her.

That is so nice of you! Cute Maltese. That coat doesn't look like it'll comb out easily. A groomer would probably clip her down. With the show Cockers, if they were not combed out everyday and bathed ever couple weeks, lots of coat conditioner, they would mat up quickly, like in a day or two. So, that coat could have become matted within a few days. It is amazing how quickly they look unkempt if someone isn't brushing and combing their hair. I hope you find the owner. Let us know how it goes.

My neighbor keeps her Maltese clipped to about an inch all over although his face and ears are a little longer. So cute except he thinks he's the boss of my dog (and everyone else) and Chase lets him. Hope you find the owner!

Aww you're her angel GoLightly! Thanks for scooping her up. I hope her family can find her, but in the meantime she couldn't be in better hands.

So glad you took her home! She definitely needs a bath and a haircut. Hope you find the owners, but glad she is in good hands until then. This is exactly how my in laws 'adopted' their last dog.

Thank you for saving this little cutie.
Although looking matted, and you say stinky, she does not look horribly dirty. Don't know a thing about the little breeds.
Prayers that her owners see your flyers.
