Lucy did great, she is afraid of our tile and will not go up stairs at all. She'll go down, but not up. I think that she's just got a hang up about this. I've felt her hips and they feel fine, I didn't feel any signs of arthritis or joint pain, she didn't react negatively when I checked her joints. I think she just thinks she's not supposed to go up the stairs.

So... even though I was SURE she would sleep in bed with the daughter, I ended up leaving her to sleep on the floor in the parlor with the blanket that Cathy sent with her. I hadn't bought her a dog bed because I figured she'd be using the daughter's... but now... well I'm gonna go get her a dog bed today. Last night, I tucked her in like Cathy told me she did with her dogs and Lucy gave me a kiss after I told her good night and then she settled in on her blanket and she was in the same spot I left her in when I got up this morning. She was such a good girl last night.

She had an accident in the house this morning, but it was my fault. I took her out before breakfast and forgot to take her out after. While I was grabbing my keys, I heard her cry and I immediately knew what I'd done wrong and mentally kicked myself. Poor baby. It was very busy this morning trying to get two dogs out to the restroom and fed all while keeping them from interrupting our ability to get stuff done by hanging on to each other's cheeks... and I know that it was an honest mistake on both our parts... but I still feel horrible. She looked absolutely mortified.

I'm taking Lucy to get chipped today and I'm gonna get her paperwork started at my vet.. I'm also going to talk to them about how to check her for a good weight because she LOOKS thin to me. I know she isn't, but... I guess I'm just not used to dogs built like she is. Mugen is very stocky and is going to be very stocky. Reilly was a lot bulkier than Lucy is and I'm thinking that maybe that's because he was a male. So... I figure if they show me how to watch her weight, I won't worry wart about her.

And that's it. A very uneventful and good night. :-)

Her pic looks like she has a longer nose, more slender head & slender legs. She may be more from field-type breeding and have a more slender build overall than the stockier labs. You may find that she shouldn't be as stocky as Mugen. Your vet will no doubt be able to guide you on that.
I'm so glad to hear she's doing good. I bet 2 dogs in the morning takes a little more time - your routine will take a little while to adjust! Don't beat yourself up over your mistake.

Yeah... they laughed at me and told me that Reilly was one of the biggest labs they'd ever seen and that Mugen was going to be larger than he was.

Reilly was a field type dog... but he was just... HUGE. Mugen is just a tank. Mugen's going to be shorter than Reilly was, but still weigh in at around 95 - 100 pounds as an adult according to my vet.

I think the skewed reality here that needed a check is probably because Lucy's a girl. My comparisons to draw are based off a completely different gender. LOL!
