what makes a good

Dock dog?

I have considered train our FCL for dock diving. She is 18 months and weighs 62 lbs. I'm 5'10 and if I hold a bumper a little above my head level she can bump it, if its a food treat she can take it out of my hand. So she has what I think are pretty good springs?

But what makes a good dock dog? I have searched and see results and some training talk but nothing about common characteristics.

Really the only thing that comes to mind is a high drive for jumping and fetching ...... and focus!

the ability to swim and toy drive would help

FCL, Female Chocolate Lab- She has drive and loves the water. I try and take her to the beach every few days, she loves it. Gives her a place to dig, splash and giggle and run like a demon.

I guess I'll have to look for a dock for her to jump of and start messing around. Would being able to grab kibble from my hand a 6'+ good vert.?

Where are you located? Maybe there is a DockDogs club close by that you can practice with.

Here are two clubs in your area. Being from Georgia, I don't know which is closer to you, but check out the links and hook up with one of them. They are both great people and will definitely help you get started in this sport.

Puget Sound DockDogs

Cascade DockDogs

Both are pretty far away. There is a pond pretty close to our house, no dock or anything but I am going to look for a steep bank. Gotta start somewhere!
