How many meals do you give?

I'm doing 3 now...I had dropped her to 2 for about 2 weeks, but she had diarrhea when she stopped her flagyl so I brought in the third meal again and she's been fine.

So I'm wondering how many meals you give or when you switched to 2 meals if thats what you do.

I feed 2 meals a day and have been since Zoey was 4 months old. She decided on her own that she didnt want her lunchtime feeding, she simply just stopped eating it

LOL yeh I know. Zoey is funny like that. She is a very dainty eater. She never scarfs food or over-eats and she can be quite picky with just dry kibble. I mix lots of meats, veggies, fish, yogurt with her food. She also eats half a can of wet food once a day. She eats a wide variety of fruits as well. She has just never been a huge fan of just dry dog food. if i feed her just dry food, she has to have warm water added.

Now if you offer her any kind of treats she is a typical lab, drool and all. She will do ANYTHING for a slice of apple

Addy acts like she's starving all the time. She eats 3 meals a day, 1 cup each time-Currently 1/3 Orijen large breed puppy and 2/3 Eagle Pack large/giant breed puppy because we are transitioning. When I scoop her food she follows me to the closet and sticks her head in to try to eat out of the dog food bag. I mix her food with about 1 cup of water. When I carry her bowl to the placemat she leaps about a foot off the ground repeatedly because she's so excited about eating...jeez.

Best thing to teach a dog who is wild about feeding is sit and release. Before you set her food bowl down, put her in a sit, do not feed her until she has calmed down and then you release her with whatever word you want to use. I just say "ok eat" I also give her pet on the head and remind her that she is a good girl for obeying me

I do pull her away as I'm putting the bown down and make her sit...otherwise she will knock the bowl as I put it on the ground and spill the food. Haha...that's happened a couple times. Good thing she cleans up the mess ;-)

Pepper used to do the same thing, with the excited jumping. But like the advice given here, I made her sit and wait before I'd put the bowl down. Now she'll automatically sit and wait for me to release her to eat. Such a smart girl!

She's gotten funny lately, though. She'll be so excited, then I'll put the food down and release her and she just sniffs it and looks at me like, "Oh.. it's just dog food?"

I might need to start supplementing the kibble with other ingredients, fruit, yogurt, etc. I've been reading the diet forums quite a bit lately to get more info before I try anything like that. Don't want to accidentally poison the girl!

We have a little eating machine. Merlin does not get wild when fed, 1 cup three times a day, but he would eat 24/7.

Mine eats 3x a day. When he finishes his breakfast, I put more in his bowl for the next meal. He leaves it in there til I get home from work and add raw lamb to it. Then I put some more in and he doesn't eat it until late at night before bed. I am basically a free feeder....except for the raw with the dinner.

Curious as to why? Will you continue for awhile...I am always so worried about bloat.

I do that too. Once I got interrupted by a phone call and never gave Scooby (Shaggy wasn't around yet) the release word and I forgot. Few minutes later, I hear small whimpering in the laundry room (where I feed him). He was still sitting there with a puddle of drool in front of him staring at his dinner. I felt really bad about that but was very proud of him for not breaking his sit!

I feed both dogs twice a day -morning and evening.
