Question How much is a 6mos old lab worth

Not sure I can take anymore of the constant chewing and destruction. 6 mos old and not sure I want to go through this another 6-18 mos.
How much is a housebroken, all shots, lab going for these days?

He's worth another hour outside everyday and a couple marrow bones to help you last thru the puppy stage - oh and some doggie playdates would help too

are you being sarcastic and airing out frustration or are ou serious?

If you are being sarcastic/frustated (and not SERIOUSLY asking about the worth of the dog) - it gets better with time. NO ONE said puppies were easy. YOu hear stories of easy puppies but generally speaking, they are a LOT of work ad make you want to pull your hair out.

Is the pup crated trained? Crate the pup when you cannot watch it
How much exercise is the pup getting every day? It may very wel not be enough
How much time are you working on training per week? Gotta keep those brains working

IF you are serious about the worth of the dog - call the breeder and have them take the dog back (assuming it was an ethical breeder). THe training you put in is actually worth nothing unforunately. You can ask for an adoption fee to ensure he goes to someone who isn't looking for "a free dog" - otherwise call a rescue who will come take the pup and rehome it for you.

I tell you what Icecold, your post really ticked me off. Are you serious?
I get heartbroken & angry with all the posts we see about GA shelters being overwhelmed with dogs, and here's another one in peril. Puppies aren't easy to raise, they take time, work & love. I bet it didn't even come from a good breeder, so calling the breeder is probably a dead-end.
Get a backbone, and take care of that dog. It's called responsibility. Spend time with it, train it, be compassionate to it. Its a living creature, that you brought into your home. Rise to the challenge, be a decent human being.

Just hang in there!
We can all give you a lot of suggestions to help you and your pup make it thru this tough time.
You've got to get that pup a lot of exercise. If he/she is biting you, substitute your body for a bone or a toy, and same for things your pup isn't supposed to be chewing.
Make sure you have your dog crate trained...a time out for both of you sounds like it's needed here and there.
You may want to get him/her into obedience classes, that helps alot! Work on training with him/her.
There really is a lot you can do to help with the puppy stuff.

Pack him in crate and send him to us. We will absorb the cost and damage.

IceCold - if you have damage and destruction, you just aren't doing it right. If you want to learn how to take care of this puppy, we can help and you can sign up for a training class immediately.

If you really don't want the responsibility that you signed up for - find your pup a good home and GIVE the dog to a friend or a friend of a friend. Put the word out and find someone you trust that will give your pup a loving, forever home. YOU OWE YOUR PUP THAT MUCH.

Harley is my first dog.I had him since 8 weeks and wouldn't trade him for the world.I love him so much.It is alot of work training a puppy but it's all worth it.You need alot of patience and love.A crate is the best thing to have.A lab needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. If you didn't live so far I would gladly take your puppy.

Sorry Icecold, but I don't think you'll find anyone willing to put a pricetag on a puppy here.

A constant chewing and destruction seems to indicate either lack of training, lack of exercise or both. If you are willing to take the time, then you can have great advice here.

If you are not willing to, then giving the dog is the best thing you can do. But for the sake of your puppy, find someone that will take good care of your dog, not the one that will pay the most! We can all understand that you invested a lot of money in your puppy. We all did and still do. That being said, a puppy is not a thing to use for profit.

Personnally, if I was to take a 6 months old puppy, I would either take him from a shelter or from someone that is looking for a nice family. I might be willing to share part of the cost, and certainly to buy some of the material (remaining food, crate, etc). That would probably be it.

I know exactly how you feel Icecold....I have a 3 month old who frustrates the heck out of me. When he wont listen or just acts like a complete idiot I just want to get rid of him...but then I realize that Im just frustrated that hes 3 months old and its going to take some time. There are so many good times, like when hes sleeping or just sitting there being good that you cant help but love them.

I had a lab mix a couple years ago that as a puppy would chew on the wall and would find where each nail was and uncover it. He chewed a hole in the wood under the cabinet, and the window seal, etc. But as he got older, he was the BEST dog. I guess it takes time for them to get out of that "puppy" stage.

Dont give up just yet, as much as you want to. You never know what kind of dog he will be in 6 months or 2 years.

If your 6 month old son or daughter was putting everything in their mouth, would you be looking to sell them too? Reality is, it's a baby and babies of all species explore the world with their mouths. It doesn't last forever, and you've had good suggestions here of how to manage the behaviour and educate the pup on what's acceptable, which is basically what you volunteered to do by bringing it home.

I'm not gonna say much, because I'm going to lose my temper...
Giving up on a baby that YOU chose to bring home really p*sses me off.

But I will say call your breeder and see if they'll take the pup back.
