New lab owner saying hello
Hello, everyone! I found this board through a search and am very excited - such great info!
We just adopted our first lab pup - he's from a network that brought him up to Maryland from a shelter in Somersville, W Va, and we're told he's a black lab mix. Lab people think he's pretty much almost all lab, but who knows -- he's got a little bit of white right under his mouth and a few white hairs coming in over his nose, along with a white star and a frosting of white on one hind paw. We're struggling with the "fur covered piranha" aspect of the lab right now (he's just about 12 weeks old, and we've had him for a month) and I'm trying to find appropriate chew toys (Nylabones good? or Bad?) and nutrition info. We had a golden/husky mix female whom we lost in August at the grand old age of 15, but she was very deliberate and neat. Mack is a boy DOG - bold, but not dominant, seems quite smart (knows sit, come, crate and sort of down already) and is more externally focused than our Somerville was. But the teeth! Very open to suggestions and ideas from all! - Gina |

Hi Gina, I just found this site a few days ago. I've found so much great information here. I'm a new lab owner, too. Our puppy is 13 weeks old. Congrats, and have fun with your new pup!

Thanks, everyone! I found some good "biting" posts in training already, and I really appreciate the welcome. Your dogs are all SO gorgeous!
I tried to go to the albums but it says I can't post...when I can figure out how to share photos, I will! - Gina |

You need to make at least ten posts before the board will allow you to receive PM's and post photos to your gallery.
Welcome aboard :-)

We're fans of durable nylabones at our house. They keep the girls from chewing on things they shouldn't.

Just picked up the ridged Nylabone for extreme chewers this afternoon - Mack seems to like them best when they get a bit gnawed on the ends. I keep tossing them at that point, but I may be being a bit excessive; it's just chewed, not big chunks going missing.
Thanks for the encouragement that "this too shall pass" with the puncture wounds!

One quick question...do all labs snore this loudly?
Mack just CRASHES and his snores are very audible! It's kind of adorable, but he's loud! |
