I'm glad to hear that Nico feels better today! I did get the doggie essiac and started giving it to her on Thursday. I mix it in with a little canned food and she eats it up or I mix it in with her dinner. So far, so good as far as tolerating it goes. I have used Trixsyn for Lacie's joints for a while. It is a similiar product to Lubrisyn. I think it really does help with the joints and she tolerates it well too so I would recommend one or the other. Trixsyn has a good web site about what it is. I give her the large even though she is 80 pds. just for a little higher dose. I think both products work well. I am avoiding the NSAID right now too so want to keep her on something. She still doesn't have much interest in her dry food but I sneak in a little with her canned food and the steak I've been giving her. I'm glad to hear he likes the alfalfa as that is loaded with good things. Fingers crossed that Nico will continue to improve!

Just want to mention that with SAMe for liver it is best to give it away from meals for better uptake by the body (if you can get it into him that way with adding stress) and to also give a B50 complex along with the Denamarin if its not already in the product. B helps the uptake of the SAMe as well.

I learned this from Mary at dogaware.com when Miya was diagnosed with liver issues.

I put peanut butter on a spoon and place the pills on top and than when feeding it I scrape onto the roof of the mouth and all the licking takes the pills down the hatch.

Glad to hear he's eating the alfalfa

Thanks for the info Patty. I read through the insert info and it doesn't look to have any B50 complex so that is something I'll need to add. He has been getting it before I feed him. The vet's instructions were to give it 1 hour before feeding, preferably on an empty stomach. So we just get up a little earlier in the AM and he takes it in a pill pocket (the pills are pretty big).

He had a real good day again today. Earlier this evening he was acting hungry even though he had eaten a good dinner so I offered him a handful of dry food. At first he turned away from it so I gave the little dogs a couple pieces of the kibble and suddenly he was very interested! It was like - "oh, I didn't realize this was a TREAT!" LOL Silly boy. Tomorrow I will try half dog food/half homecooked.

Peanut butter..

I put peanut butter on a piece of bread, with pill enclosed and both my dogs love it! It's become a daily treat they get very excited about.

I hope Nico is feeling better. You both are in a prayers. I know they use reglan to decrease nausea/vomiting in chemo patients.

Nico has been up and down the past two weeks. He had seemed to be doing better two weekends ago so I tried to slowly introduce some of his cancer & liver medications. It set him back - lost appetite and looking miserable. So I said, that's it. No more. I've taken him off all medication except for pain. He quickly perked up and was eating great. The last couple days, though, he looks like his knees are really bothering him so we are experimenting with increasing and adding to pain meds and anti-inflammitories. I just want something that controls the pain that his stomach can handle. He has good days and not so good ones. His appetite is much better. I just want to keep him as comfortable as possible. He generally seems to feel best from later in the morning until mid evening. Late at night and first thing in the morning are when he seems to be most uncomfortable so I'll do what I can for him but I don't want him to suffer. I think it's just a matter of time until we can't control the pain for any reasonable amount of time and then I'll have to make the painful decision.

He's gone. He went downhill very fast the last couple days so I couldn't let him suffer any more. I took him in this morning to the vet and had his suffering ended.
I can't write anymore about it now.
