NuVet Plus
Does anyone use NuVet Plus. I pick my puppyup next week and the breeder requires that it be used to keep puppy health guarantee in effect.

If you are buying from a reputable breeder then I would trust the breeder. They know their lines and if the food works for them and it is required for the guarantee to remain in effect, then I would not even contemplate switching foods.
Make sure you post pics of your new pup! |

Nuvet plus is a supplement not a food, maybe some of the breeders can chime in and explain the purpose of requiring this?

You can click on the highlighted words to check out ingredients. Make sure you do look over the contract, many breeders do have a food they want you to continue feeding the pup for so many months to keep the guarantee in effect. |

The breeder recommends Flint River Ranch. They only require it to be fed forone month but I will keep her on it if all goes well.

I use it - well sometimes - maybe every other day. My friend gives it to his almost 15 year old australian sheperd. She has done well with it. I also swear by the Nujoint. Charlie has hip dysplasia and I started giving him the Nujoint. After he had been on it awhile I started noticing him laying in that froggy position. Have no idea if that means anything, but he never laid like that before.
Honestly, I go back and forth with the Nuvet. A lot of people will say breeders are telling you to keep the dog on Nuvet because the breeder gets kick backs from it. Some will say you don't need a supplement if you are feeding a high quality food. It is an all natural supplement. Nancy

I just started our Yorkie on Flint Rand he likes it.
I may get the Nu Vet sprinkle for his food as well. |

I personally have issues with a breeder that insists on using a food and a supplement in order to keep the health guarantee intact. Especially since brands like NuVet and Flint River are usually sold by the breeder, and they receive commissions.

There was a thread on this product quite a while ago and one of the things I remember is this product has way too much calcium in it for a growing Lab. They don't list the calcium on the link given above but notice they use Ester C (that is calcium) You don't give Ester C to pups - only regular Vit. C.
I too have a problem with breeders enforcing this in their contract. I bet there is an order code number you use when ordering the product - and that code kicks back to the breeder who is earning commissions on all sales. |

I don't have an issue with a breeder stating that a certain food must be fed for x amount of months (as long as the buyer knows ahead of time). I think if you are buying from a reputable breeder who knows their lines and knows what works for optimal growth and development of their pups and trusts that particular company or food, then the buyer shouldn't have an issue sticking to the recommended food for a limited time frame. Saying that, I will also say that I had the food I fed in my contract, I highly recommended that they stick to the food and if they were going to switch to please call me to discuss first. The buyers received my contract when reserving a pup so they knew this was in the contract, but again, it didn't void the contract if they did switch. I did have a few buyers over the years switch to a different food and the food they choose was fine with me, what I did not want was a buyer to suddenly switch to adult Ol Roy or a generic adult brand for their growing pup. If I had an issue with the required food in the contract or a required supplement that I disagreed with, it would make me go consider going elsewhere for a pup. There are enough reputable breeders of Labs that a person should be able to find the breeder who has the lines they like, clearances, & similiar ideals of raising pups. Just my opinion. |
