Otis needs help
Hello this is my first post. My yellow lab Otis is 5yrs old and has been having issues the past 3 weeks. He is presently diagnosed with suspected Masticatory Muscle Myositis(MMM). All his blood work came back fine and there were two xrays done which showed no blockages or fractured bones. He usually has so much energy we can't keep up with him. The first signs were lethargy and not finishing his food. He got to the point where he was barely moving and looked like a 15 yr old dog. He is on the prescribed meds for MMM and responded great to it for the most part but once the dosages were lowered he got worse. Now he is on the steroid 2 times/day awaiting the results of the MMM test.
The past two days he was pretty much back to normal and went to the beach with me for a long walk both days. This morning we were about to go out after he ate food and he was all wobbly and couldnt get his feet under him. It was so scary and tough to see. Its like his motor skills abandoned him. One hour later he was fine and walking normal. Could this be a side effect of the drug he is on or is there a possible neurological thing going on here as well? I have done alot of research on the MMM in dogs and no where do i see that a symptom is not walking normal or having difficulty moving. |

I don't have any insight to offer you, just wanted to tell you I am sorry Otis is going through this.
If you bought Otis from a breeder, I would contact them, perhaps they have a better idea of what this could be or they've had other dogs with the same symptoms. Welcome to the group. I am sure some people will have some ideas for you. Sending good thoughts for Otis. |

Has he been tested for lyme?
No idea about the disease you are testing for so can't offer help other than prayers you figure out what is causing his weakness. |

Glad that has been ruled out. Lets hope the MMM test tells you something.
