Thank you all for the prayers, we desperately need them!

My sister is a complete mess and due to the media I have my 5 year old niece with me. At this time they are not releasing the information BUT someone who claimed to be family posted on the internet "newspaper" John and my sister's first and last names.

The therapist and victim advocate said to let my niece talk but not to ask her any questions. To just validate her feelings, reassure her that she is safe and that she is loved.

Listening to the things that my niece says about that night are devastating to hear and I cannot even begin to imagine being 5 years old and witnessing the things that she did.

The police officer had no choice but to do what he did. I cannot express my gratefullness to the officers and other personel that responded that night and the treatment of my niece. They handled her with compassion, smpathy and were very delicate.

The word devastated does not even begin to cover how our family is feeling right now!

As a daughter of a military dad and the wife of a military man, I have witnessed first hand what goes on mentally for some of these men and women coming back from war. I don't think they are given the tools they need to survive some of the things they see over there. It is true the a lot of people come back physically but not mentally, and it makes life so very hard for these men and women. While the military offers psychiatric help for the troops when they get back, a lot of times they won't take advantage of it because it looks bad on their military record and to their peers. I am so very sorry to hear of this tragedy and my heart goes out to you, his children and his wife. My prayers are with all of you. RIP, and thank you so much for your service to this country, I hope you have found the peace you need.

I TOTALLY AGREE! Having served 12 years and have been around those who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan with the Army Reserves and National Guard, these men/women are just "sent home" and told to cope in most cases. It's very sad.

To the OP, I'm so very very sorry.

What makes this so much harder is my sister called his CO a month ago and told him what was going on and begged for help and he told my sister "it's normal behavior for just being home from Iraq."

The could have been avoided and wasn't!!!!

I am so sorry for your loss. Don't listen to what other people say... you know better as does his friends, family and fellow soldiers. That's truly all that matters. Some people try to make themselves feel better by putting down others they don't know or couldn't begin understand. Stay strong and true to your feelings and beliefs.

His CO should be reported and investigated for negligence or failure to take action.
