Our Miracle Girl!
We adopted our senior lab, Fannie, from a wonderful rescue in Salem, OR called Hopes Haven via Petfinder.com--I encourage anyone in the northwest to look it up if they are searching for a rescue dog-what a wonderful place and person!
Fannie was scheduled to be euthanized in the afternoon, because the family was "done" with her and she was 10 yrs. old. The wife called Hopes Haven and asked if they would take her-of course they did! We wanted to adopt a dog no one else would consider and we really wanted a black lab--God led us to our girl! The next month, another miracle--a neighbor GAVE us our beautiful 2 yr. old lab, Gus...they are perfect for each other!! When Fannie came to us, she just lay there-didn't know how to play, chew a bone, was fat and inactive, and had arthritis in her shoulder. In the months since, Gus has taught her how to have fun and our care has caused her to lose weight and become active and healthy! Now she runs and plays and is a happy happy girl! I would encourage anyone to adopt a senior dog, but give them a younger friend to keep them company and mentor them in fun! |

Can you post some pictures of them? We all love to hear stories about the seniors getting a second chance!
Congratulations on your new family members!

That is a terrific story. Thanks, for saving a senior!! They are great.
I, too, rescued a senior and he's the love of our life. We also were the lucky takers of a young brother for him. We got him from my husbands nephew. It's fun to watch them play, isn't it? |

That's so awesome! I would love to see pic of your girl!
I live in Oregon and I just posted in another thread that I have been thinking that I want to adopt a senior. DH wants to wait for our pup to be older before we get another dog. I will check out their site.I just don't understand how after 10 years you could just not want a dog anymore. It just breaks my heart. Thank you for adopting a senior! |

That is an awesome story. I have recently been considering adopting a second dog....Tux was adopted from an animal shelter about a year ago, when he was three months old. I have been considering a senior dog....Tux is extremely laidback and low-key, and I really think his energy level would not be that different from a senior's. And I do enjoy him being laidback, and I'm not sure that I want to bring an overly hyper younger dog into the mix....plus I like the idea of adopting a senior to love and spoil for the rest of their life.
