    November 2014 Photo Contest!

November is here and MightyThor has chosen the very appropriate theme of Thankfulness. The Thanksgiving holiday season is a time for us to reflect on what makes us thankful. We appreciate our Labs and how they enrich our lives, our community here on the Labrador Retriever Chat Board, all of the good advice we get here and certainly for Woody's tireless work keeping this such a great place to be.

So, what are you and your pup grateful for? Express that emotion as a photo and post it up! We are grateful for all of the entries!

Here's Thor being grateful for a happy and comfortable family where he can snooze away in peace!

As always, we will periodically go through and clean things up to keep the thread streamlined for voting purposes.
Here are the guidelines we will be following:

    1) You must be a fairly regular poster -- with a minimum of 100 posts -- to enter the contest. If you don't have 100 posts go to the fun forum, etc. It's easy to get 100 posts. Entries from members with less than 100 posts will be deleted.
    2) The picture must be in keeping with the theme.
    3) Only one entry per member - no series of photos.
    4) No altered photos (borders or thought balloons, etc.).
    5) The picture must be one that you took of your dog.
    6) You must vote for someone other than yourself.
    7) You may win only once in a calendar year.
    8) In the event of a tie, the tie breaker will be the first picture posted chronologically.

    Thank you.

P.S. -- if you have any questions, please feel free to send Calley's Family or Woody a PM.

The monthly contest winner will choose the next theme and also receive a collar with a heavy duty black plastic buckle from our sponsor

    3 dirty dawgz

The Contest will be closed for entries on the evening of Monday, November 24th - Good luck to all and thank you to our sponsor!

So many photos to choose from. Not the best photo but I thought it showed best how Sam and Ava are grateful for each other.

Cassie and Reba are thankful for each other and the "hole to China" (which we haven't filled in) under a group of bushes they claim as their "fort"!

On June 29, 2012, my Kimber dog collapsed while playing fetch. We rushed her to the emergency vet and then had her admitted to the Virginia Tech Vet School, where they diagnosed her with a spinal injury. The best guess is that her backbone popped up and hit her spinal column, leaving her back end paralyzed. When we brought her home on July 3, we had to carry her back end in a sling. The vet was cautiously optimistic that she would recover enough to be a "functional pet"- but no promises. We found a wonderful rehab vet and we were diligent with her exercises, but I cannot thank this board enough for helping us through that traumatic time. Everyone here cheered when I posted updates, and shared their experiences and advice on taking care of a seriously injured dog. As the owner of a wheelchair-bound lab in the past, Daisy and Miia was especially supportive. Kimber was making slow progress when we got the okay from the professionals to use our friends' swimming pool for water therapy. Kimber was always a water dog and knew that pool well; DH thought I was over-reacting when I insisted we put a life jacket on her. But on the first outing, she started flagging after just 5 minutes. But we kept going, adding a few minutes each day, and it was like her progress went into warp speed. She started putting weight on her right foot, then her left, and then we didn't need the sling. She could do the stairs, and walk for longer and farther each day. She never got back to 100%- she still drags her back left foot a little, and she can't jump up on things- but she's happy, healthy, and loves to hike and play fetch. The rehab vet is the first to say access to the pool made a huge difference. So today, in the theme of giving thanks, I post a photo of Kimber in her life jacket, swimming in that pool!
