15 years old tough week
Hi: Maxxie is 2 weeks shy of 15 years old. He is just recovering from a tough week of not being able to get up, trouble walking, falling back into his poop etc. I almost made a decision I wasn't ready to make & I'm glad because he is improving a lot.:image023: He walked on his own to & from the park. He is absolutely himself. He just started peeing the bed though. I bought some pee pads but they are useless. Any ideas?

It could be a UTI or incontinence. Take a urine sample to the vet to rule out UTI first. collect first thing in a.m. prior to food or water and in mid stream for best sample.

Urinalysis for sure. Is the dog on medication for pain? Have you looked at chiropractic treatments or massage or laser?
-
Yes, sometimes the only sign of a urinary tract infection in a senior is the dog just being "off" or "weak," especially if a fever develops. They are painful.
In my area, I'd also check for tickborne disease.
Feel better, pup!

I agree w/ the others, but wanted to add, they do make doggy diapers if it's not a health issue. I've never used them, so I cannot vouch for their effectiveness, which varies per dog no doubt. It's so sad to see our babies become seniors, isn't it? 15 years old, my goodness!

Meme does the same thing, we have half the room covered in potty pads. It took months before she was pad trained. Diapers are a good option as well

Bless you Maxxie - 15 years old - WOW! No other suggestions, wanted to send along good thoughts.

awww...Bless his heart...:image019:
I agree with a urinalysis...it could be incontinence...there is a medication called Proin that will help if it is.
Good luck to you...15 years old is amazing for a Lab.
