"Stick Up" Shorebird decoy
Aye Mates,
Posting a rendering of a "stick up" style shorebird decoy influenced by the historical carver Elisha Burr of Hingham, MA. I love shorebirds and their wooden counterparts (decoys). The carvings of the Burr family are amongst some o' me favorite shorebird imposters in wood.
I did this piece in artist grade (Prismacolor) pencils on a toned acid free archival quality drawing paper. Also find here an example o' me 3 dimensional work, a reproduction antique style yellow legs shorebird stick up gunning decoy. I carved the body and head in one piece of North Atlantic White Cedar and made the leg and bill out o' Black Walnut. The bird is painted in artist grade oils and the eyes are brass tacks that have been chemically antiqued to a nice patina. I mounted the bird on a piece o' driftwood with grain that resembles the waves o' moving water. Hope ye enjoy it. Shorebirds always convey a feeling of tranquility to me.
Cheers,
