The funny thing is we have trained with chalk marks, little sticky dots and other things you may see on the floor. The lady I train with has her own fully equipped training building so we can set up all kinds of stuff. We've even put Lab fur at different spots on the floor. This has been one of his issues as we've gone along, but he has never done it while doing this specific exercise.
No excuses, but it was a long day for him. Up at 4am, drive an hour to my friends place, load up in her van, drive 1.5 hours to the venue. Waited almost 5 hours for our class. I had him out of the crate quite a bit, but still that's a long time for a young dog to be cooped up.
