I give cooked sausage cut into small pieces or cheese for training but wondering about good recipes for homemade dog treats.
So who has a recipe for some dog treats (doesn't have to be for training, just any type of recipe for treats).

I don't often give "cookie" type treats and there are lots of great ideas on the internet. I like to make jerky and have a dehtdrator. Jerky can also be made easily without a dehydrator in your oven.
Slice chicken breast in to thin slices, lightly salt and place on baking tray.
Cook in 250° oven for 4 - 5 hours, prop oven door slightly using wide end if wooden spoon.
Jerky should be bendable but not crispy when done.
Store in refrigerator in airtight container and freeze any amount you will not use within one week.
My guys go nuts over this stuff!
Thanks!! I actually think a dehydrator is exactly what I need. My dog also doesn't get "cookies" and as she only gets raw/home cooked food I was thinking I needed to come up with something new!
Does meat processed in a dehydrator or cooked as above need to be refrigerated? I have read it doesn't need to be refrigerated and will keep safe at room temp.
The problem I have now with the cheese or sausage bits is it's greasy.....but a dehydrator would give me tasty non-greasy treats, is that right?
I keep it refrigerated and freeze extra when I make big batches. I have always been afraid to leave it at room temperature as there are no preservatives. All of the recipes I have read say to refrigerate and freeze any that won't very used within a week.
ETA - yes, this is not greasy! Definitely a plus!
I'm too lazy to make anything, I just buy turkey and cheese from the grocery store
I've got a bunch of them! This one's a good one though
Cinnamon Bun Bites
Ingredients:
* 2 cups whole wheat flour
* 1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
* 1/4 tsp salt
* 1/2 cup water or milk
* 1/4 cup canola oil
* 1 large egg
* 2 tsp honey
* 1 tsp. cinnamon
* 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)
Cream Cheese Drizzle
* 1/4 cup light cream cheese
* 1-2 Tbsp. milk or water
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350º F
2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. In small bowl, stir together water, oil and egg. Add to the dry ingredients, stir until you have a soft dough.
3. On a lightly floured surface, roll/pat the dough into a rectangle that measures 8x14 inches. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon and nuts. Starting from a long edge, roll up jelly-roll style and pinch the edge to seal. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, slice half an inch thick and place slices cut side down on a sprayed cookie sheet.
4. Bake for about 15 minutes, until springy to the touch. Wait until they have cooled completely before spreading them with cream cheese.
This recipe makes about 2 dozen cookies.
They sound wonderful but I thought walnuts were a no-no?! Maybe I am wrong, it sure wouldn't be the first time or the last, lol!
If you get a dehydrator, you could do beef liver, heart, bananas, sweet potatoes, apples. . . Polly loves them all and they are healthy! (I don't have a dehydrator - I just use a low oven.)
There are lots of recipes for pumpkin and peanut butter treats too on the internet, here's one site:

Black walnuts can be toxic, regular walnuts could cause an upset stomach if digested in a large amount. I didn't use a lot when I made them and used the food processor to chop them up - no problems! But the treats can be made just as easily without if you'd rather err on the side of caution :)
If you can find some fresh pig ears you can dehydrate them too (just take a little longer) or cut them into strips and dehydrate if you don't want to give them a whole ear.
