New Frog Mascot
Bob found a new yard mascot while out in the backyard starting his Fall chores. Naturally, the battery in my camera was dead...as was the backup. Needless to say, I'm not much of a picture taker nowadays.
I got all excited about this frog. I'd never seen one like this before and figured maybe we had a rare new friend. Come to find out, it's a common Wood Frog. Since they are supposedly prolific breeders and I have the perfect woodland property, I'm surprised I've never seen one before.
It was gracious enough to stick around while one of my batteries charged enough for me to snap a few shots. Here's the one that's the most flattering:

I hope it likes our yard...I wouldn't mind seeing more of these hanging around.

That's a good looking frog.

What a neat colour, faded, dead leaves. Perfect camouflage. Hope not so perfect he gets stepped on or run over. :)

That's cool. Did it happen to speak, so to speak?

I thought it was just beautiful...and so well camouflaged. Bob says he never would have noticed it if it hadn't jumped and hit his leg while he was cutting back the plants in that back mulched area. Thank goodness it wasn't where his cutters were. It's actually a bit pinker than what my monitor shows.
I bet they've been around in our yard and just too well hidden to be spotted....although I see toads and pickerel frogs all the time and sometimes some tiny frogs that I just call Spring Peeps.
Andrew ~ It didn't make any noise at all. I'm assuming that it's a female based on its size. My Google for wood frog calls gave me only male mating calls...I wonder if the females even say anything.
