crate training and the first night with Jett
Okay so I was hoping the 36inch dog crate would be okay and we wouldn't have to buy a smaller one -I lost my crate divider, I probably left it at my parent's house in Iowa. Jett was super tired out and fell asleep in his crate last night very nicely. But at 3am he was crying and we woke up to a pee and poop disaster in the crate. Actually, Jett managed to poop right in the middle of the donut of his chew toy. Impressive aim. But he was covered in urine.
My husband wanted to go out and buy woodchips in the morning for him to pee on :P But I told him its because he has too much space in his crate.
So I either have to buy a brand new small crate or find a crate divider? We need it for work tomorrow!! Also, we didn't take up his water early last night because we got home late driving home from Atlanta.
He didn't have any other accidents...at 6am I heard him moving and I woke up and took him outside and he pooped/peed right away. But when I put him back in the crate to get sleep he wasn't having it. I think he barked/cried/whined for a solid 40 minutes or more. Next time I'll feed him around 6 because he obviously was ready. We were laughing/sleeping as we listened to him. Took him back out at 8 for breakfast/play time and then we got a nap in at from about 9:30-10:40 until he woke up again. I should say I hope up because Aric is still sleeping now :)
But I take him outside and say go potty and he pretty much always does even if I have to redirect him a few times. He's been a good pup so far.
Daisy likes his toys but wants nothing to do with him at the moment. I think he'll win her over with time. How could he not?:)
Also, Aric thinks Jett should be spelled with one t not two t's. What's your vote?
