Mojo for Danny (again), please
So....the Danny saga continues and I skipped a couple of steps here along the way.
Dan's ALT was rechecked after 3 months on Denamarin (and no flea/tick stuff or sorbitol toothpaste) and it increased. I decided to stop the heartworm stuff and recheck in 3 months. Then I found a flea. No. That's unacceptable. Obviously, the yeast/garlic product I was using wasn't going to do it. And since it didn't repel fleas, it most likely wouldn't repel ticks or mosquitos, either....so we were going to go back on a flea/tick product and resume the Interceptor Plus (still on schedule, thank goodness)(and I'm scheduling every 45 days, not every 30).
We did the ultrasound at that point (showed nothing) and I had another blood check done....the ALT had risen in the approx. 3 weeks since the last one and that was all that was out of line. (and Dan has a shaved area just in time for the cold snap)
One of the vets at the clinic had recommended Simparica for fleas/ticks....supposedly very effective and a lesser dose of stuff than in some of the other oral products. One dose in, neither dog had a visible reaction to it. So far so good.
We decided to go the double-antibiotic (no steroids) route and our vet double checked with a liver specialist to confirm which antibiotic would be added to amoxicillin since metronidazole is the usual one and Dan can't (!!!) handle that one. I got the call today and we pick up his meds this afternoon. Amox and something long-lettered in the fluro-something family (I'm good, right?). I can give with yogurt to help avoid tummy upsets. Three weeks of this mix and then we check ALT again.
I refuse to consider a biopsy in a clinically asymptomatic dog. I don't want anything invasive. Vet agrees. If this mix doesn't do it, there's steroids and checking bile salts. Then the thought would turn to biopsy. (No.)
So....please.....once again....if you can send some good thoughts and mojo our way, I'd appreciate it.
(If you can send a little extra for Sunnie's old dog limp, that would be most appreciated, too.)
