Dog urine and plant question.

I want to pot some vegetable plants for indoor growing but I can't find any cheap gravel or rocks nearby. I have small river rocks down at the base of the stairs leading to the dog yard because Fran does not like to pee in dirt or mud. So she's just been peeing and peeing on this stuff for months now. I put down a lot so it's really thick. I'd like to use this for the base of my pots but I'll have to clean it in a way that's safe for the plant roots but which takes out the ammonia content.

Any ideas?

Maybe for a lack of details, I could not figure out all that may have happened in the middle. Are you saying that you want plants indoors but your dog is urinating on them? Or are you just asking in regards to saving a plant?

Vinegar will do it. I suggest soaking them in a pail of water first, especially if you don't regularly hose down the area....remove the potential crust so that the vinegar can get to the rocks.

Thanks Barb. I'm always amazed in our area when all of the garden centers just shut down at a certain time. I'm still messing around! :)

You might try ACE. If they still have it, lava rocks are great, drain well. Otherwise, Barb's vinegar suggestion sounds great.
