Another way to Foster and Help
I don't have a picture of him yet but my sister has a new kitten, a male Siamese. She is looking after him for a friend of a friend who has left an abusive relationship and gone with her two young children to a shelter. Apparently she, and many women, hesitate to leave for fear of what will become of a pet. Some shelters have a volunteer/foster system set up to help take in these pets where they can. If anyone thinks fostering is a way they can help pets and people consider this. I expect the womens shelters are a little close mouthed about where pets go, just as they are about where women and children go, but if you know someone who works in the shelter system this might appeal to you.
Kitty is fitting in very well in one day. The plan was to keep him in the basement for a week till he and Sis's dog got used to the idea of another animal in the house. But he is only a kitten (Sis had no idea how old, what colour, what sex the cat would be) and they adapt quickly. And Sis's dog is used to cats and good with them. Sis will have to give him back when the woman finds a place to settle her family in.
