Carpet?
For those of you with carpet, do you have any suggestions on what carpet works best for two labs that carry in mud and everything between? I don't want to spend 1k on living room carpet and have these guys destroy it. Right now I have an area rug that is on it's last leg of life. On the sides I have runners so no HW is exposed. Samson can't be on HW. Home Depot has this pet carpet but it's 3.49 sq/ft. 14x18 living room. I like plush carpet. I can't have the loops because my cats would tear it to shreds! Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

My carpet is 9 years old and ready to come out I was thinking of going to tile myself. I have something similar to this Shop STAINMASTER Essentials Bronson 12-ft W x Cut-to-Length Cobblestone Textured Interior Carpet at Lowes.com
It did well for about 6 years and has been going down hill from there.

I have wood floors covered with area rugs. Fortunately, we have a store very close named HOBO. They sell bound area rugs and the 9x12 is usually $109. They are good quality, probably end of runs. I don't feel bad about tossing and replacing every 2-3 years. Elsewhere, have runners for good footing. You may want to look into "out of the way" carpet stores for this type of product.

We have an area rug and a couple of small ones by the front door. Daisy keeps taking the area rug up because she likes things tidy! (Well that's my theory!) :)

No matter what rugs I have, they get dirty. I got a Hoover Steam Vac that helps keep the main traffic areas clean and I get them professionally cleaned periodically. We have hardwood floors and area rugs. The rugs, along with runners in between, are darker in color and patterned anyway so not much shows up on them, but woe to anyone walking around in white socks. Rather, woe to me on laundry day. Lark pretty much stays on the rugs and Chase did, too. I tried getting them to stop right inside the door to get their feet wiped if it's especially wet or muddy outside. Having 2 dogs pushing in and no good entryway to confine them until they're clean and dry made that pretty difficult. So that's why I got the Steam Vac. I've never tried the stain resistant carpeting they have these days but the concept is tempting.

I have 3 persian rugs that were pretty pricey. they clean up well, but chili loves licking them maybe cause natural dyes...IDK...but they are wool and hold up fine and clean fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm debating on an area rug or carpet. I guess I could get a bigger area rug and cover more of the HW with it vs. the runners. I've also thought about investing in a steamer! Been thinking about this for a year and still don't know which way to go! lol Asher found a weak spot in the area rug so now he's ripping it apart. Pushing me to make a decision!

After nothing but rain for several days and a back yard full of mud, I was reminded of why I have been hesitating to get carpet or a new area rug. Ugh. There is no way to control two boys at the door to get their paws cleaned before running through the house. My hall carpet is shot. I think I will invest in a steamer and try to salvage that carpet. Now my area rug, if Asher continues to secretly pull at little strings...well, I'll have to do something. I've had this one for 10 years. Got it at Pier 1. I'd get the same one all over again too. but for now, I can't imagine getting something new ...especially with spring approaching. Area rug and carpet to the back burner! lol
