Danny's ALT finally decreased
I've had the little man on Denamarin/LiverAid (homeopathic) for quite some time, trying to get his ALT to respond. (had been increasing steadily for four years, the last two over the range)
I refused to consider a biopsy since he had no symptoms of anything being wrong...and the ultrasound showed nothing.
I had him in for a lump check two days ago and decided to also do his blood check on that visit. His ALT was 362 in December and is now 329. Not a big difference but it's a change in the right direction.
I mentioned to the vet that I'd started him on turmeric when I read that glucosamine/chondroitin aren't advised for dogs with liver (or kidney) issues. Since we didn't know what was going on with his liver, I wanted to err on the side of caution. Turmeric is known as an anti-inflammatory but also, come to find out, it supports good liver health. Bonus. (and it's bacon flavored....he gives it 4 paws up)
The vet agrees that the turmeric might have been what finally got his ALT to respond...I figured that was definitely worth sharing here.
He'll get checked again at his annual visit (July). Fingers crossed that the turmeric will continue to help with this.
Or maybe it was all the good mojo he got from the Lab Board.
