Now I have to talk to the neighbor.
Ugh. I took a closer look at the tree that fell on the property that I mow. It's an ugly, ugly situation.
Anyone ever heard of bittersweet vine? I had thought that we had an instance or two. In particular, I had someone bring down a tree on our property line with the older man whose property I mow and when the tree came down, it took down another one with it. Both were wrapped in the vine and it was about two inches in diameter. It's like solid wood and one vine can take over multiple trees. I thought I had the situation under control though and was planning on addressing that area this spring and summer.
Then I saw what had happened in the back area of the neighbor who left his fallen tree lying in my mower's path. Every tree that came down over the winter is covered in bittersweet. At some point it invaded his area, has taken over and is now spreading to other properties. This is the picture of the fallen tree. Those aren't branches. They're vines. That could literally destroy the woods behind our house. Now it's personal.
