It was like a Russian car crash video.
Was going to work the other morning. It was dawn so still pretty dark. Heavy wet snow had begun a few hours earlier. Still snowing, visibility not great, highway wet and edged with slush. I eventually worked my way up to the speed limit and was happy with that.
The driver behind me was not happy with that. Crowded me more than I liked and eventually swung out to pass. Uh, OK, sure, whatever.
The car got about three car lengths ahead, swerved a bit to the left (maybe hit slush), overcorrected to the right, skidded sideways then all the way around to backwards directly in front of me. Headed towards and onto the right shoulder, and backwards into the ditch which was more than deep enough to completely swallow the car.
Several thoughts went through my mind as all this happened.
'Dumb _____.' [I'll let you fill in the blank.]
'Yeehaw.'
'Easy easy Andrew don't mash the brake.'
'Just like a clip in a Russian car crash video man wish I had a dash cam.'
I stopped as did several other vehicles. Thankfully the car was upright. Front bumper (or was it the rear?) was off, he was climbing out, head bumped but mind clear enough to correctly answer my question about what day it was (checking for a concussion). No blood and he moved OK, complained of no pain. He called the provincial police to report to crash. Some of the onlookers were his co-workers on the way to work and were going to stay a bit so I left.
Dude was very fortunate he stayed upright, and didn't go in the ditch sideways.
