We ARe NOT Having Fun.
I started a quest for new flooring and counter top for the kitchen. We did it over about 20 years ago and both the floor and counter are damaged. I cannot find a floor I like. Luxury vinyl plank is all the rage right now but I have enough real wood. I want luxury vinyl tile instead and there are far, far fewer choices in it, especially in the light colour I want for my N.E. facing kitchen. It was fun when I started looking but a week of driving in and out of town to check and return samples is losing it's appeal.
Then we ran out of water. OH has put in a new pump, in the house, no water. Then he dug down to the well cap, thought he'd lift several hundred pounds of cap off himself, thought better and got our young neighbour with his big tractor to do it. Dug down further, so about five feet down now, and the foot valve was broken; fixed it. He dug by hand but it's sand. Primed the pump but it's not working right, there seems to be a leak somewhere, air is getting in. I think he said that. He'd already covered the foot valve back up to the level of the concrete cap and thank heavens it's still off 'cause now he thinks he needs to dig down to the foot valve again and change some piping.
WE were able to shower and wash dishes and good neighbours are leaving their hoses out so we can fill big containers with water. One has been over helping too. The Pollyanna aspect of my driving in and out of town with floor samples is I get away from all the cursing and swearing for a few hours. I did find counter material that practically grabbed my arm as I walked by and called out, "Me, buy me." It's on sale till Oct 10 but I must find flooring first, to make sure the counter looks good with it.
Arrggghhhh.

I must add, I am SO PROUD of my OH. He's 72 and strong as an ox. Rather thinks like one too, sometimes, but.... Not many younger guys would be able to or have the knowledge to take this on. I said maybe we should just call a plumber or well expert but OH says, it's Friday, they won't come today, he might as well keep on trying himself. Sigh.

Sending good luck MOJO that you can get the well fixed without too much trouble.

Oh, man, wells. We had a TERRIBLE well for 10 years- it had two nasty elements (I want to say sulfur and iron) so that anything that ameliorated one increased the other. We also got ripped off by a well company that supposedly put a new pump in but turns out it was an old one. Then we had a great well in the next house, but we lost power just enough that I would shake my fist and say, "Well!!!!" because no power=no water. When we moved to Williamsburg, I was hoping we could stay on public water, but we're back on a well. Sigh.
Big kudos to your husband for the well-wrestling. Hope you have water soon!

All that description of the water/well problems? I haven't a clue what any of that means. I'm pretty sure my husband doesn't either, so the only digging we'd be doing is into our wallets to get someone else to fix it. What are your husband's hourly rates? :D
I guess now you get to select flooring to coordinate with that counter top rather than the other way around. It's so hard when the number of choices seem so overwhelming. I'm better at ruling out the many that I don't like than picking one that I do.
Good luck with the water situation. I'd be happy to let my own neighbors come over for showers, if needed. Heaven knows I'm really skilled at washing towels! I'm trying not to laugh, picturing you and your husband showing up at your neighbor's front door in your bathrobes, shower caps and fuzzy bunny slippers, back brushes in hand.

Anything water related broken around the house is super stressful in my opinion. I would be like your husband fix it till you can't. Gets me in trouble quit a bit lol.
I hope you find the right flooring soon.

So much at once! Took me so long to find the flooring I wanted for the kitchen, multiple, multiple trips. Then started all over again for the bathrooms.
DH is about the same age and that man can and does tackle every dang problem/project around the house. Although, luckily, we are not on a well and really don't want to be.

OH has pulled the foot valve up again. It's at the bottom of the 66 foot deep well, so 66 feet or so of hoses, but he only has to pull the double hoses out from just below the well cap, only about 5 feet down. But this time the hoses were full of water so it was very much heavier. He thinks the housing for the valve should have been replaced too and when he went to exchange the foot valve for one attached to new housing that's what the plumbing supply guy thought too. Why the plumbing supply guy didn't think of that in the first place is irking. And OH bought excess hosing left over from when he did massive well work for a friend last summer so now about 100 feet of big double hose is stretched across the front lawn. We desperately need rain. The garden is drying up and I can't water but for OH, dry is good right now.
I have 6 flooring samples on my kitchen floor and I don't like any of them. :( There are some, let's say interesting, personalities amongst flooring salespeople.

While I don't want to be Pollyanna-ish, good it happened now and not in February when the ground is frozen. And what good neighbours!

We have water! But not in the toilet. Weird. And the hot is clean and clear while the cold is rusty. We don't want to put that rusty sediment through the dishwasher or laundry pumps (laundry is below grade and below the septic so must be pumped up) but OH is filling the outside barrels to use up the rusty water that way. The old hoses and couplings were very dirty, corroded and partly clogged. Neighbour took the bigger hose anyway, says he can use it when draining his pool.
