The struggle is real, my friends. Stormy is just over 11 weeks but she had two accidents in the house yesterday.
We take her out as soon as she wakes up, or right after a big play session. When she's awake, I take her out at least every 20-30 minutes. (In the evenings, when she's mostly up from 4 pm to 10 pm, that's a LOT of outings.) If she starts sniffing around, outside she goes. Sometimes she goes to the door- and we immediately take her out. If she pauses in play to look at us- outside she goes. Lots and lots of praise for pottying outside. She is never out of our eyesight when she's awake. We crate her when we're busy cleaning/cooking. Knock on wood, she's never messed her crate.
Accident #1 yesterday: DH played with her outside for an hour. She pottied outside. They came back inside and she immediately squatted and peed in the kitchen.
Accident #2 yesterday: She was 15 minutes past her last outing. She was playing tug vigorously. In the middle of tug, she squatted to pee. I clapped my hands, DH scooped her up and rushed her outside. Only a little pee on the carpet, she finished up outside. (Praise for peeing outside; nothing done in reaction to the squat inside, aside from the clap that startled her.)
She doesn't drink a ton of water but she does pee a lot. She pees probably 90% of the time when I take her out following the clock, not because she's giving any sign of needing to pee. All of the accidents seem to come with no warning. I pick up water at 8 pm, but will give her ice cubes afterwards. But no problems so far after bedtime.
I feel like we're doing all the recommended things. Could it be a UTI? Or do I just need to be patient?
(We got Kimber in the summer and had the backdoor open so she was outside much of the day; I think that really diminished inside accidents.)
