Daisy staying overnight at the e-vet
We've had a rough afternoon/evening. Around 3 pm DH called to let me know he was taking Daisy to the vet because her eyes were looking funny and she was not responding to him. I left work and met him at the vet. Daisy was responsive but very lethargic, her eyes looked droopy, and the third eyelid was raised. Several times while we were there she went into episodes were she was not responding and her eyes looked like they were rolling back. Vet did blood work and it came back normal for her. We have blood work done frequently because of her Cushing's and compared to her other tests, the bloodwork didn't tell us much. He sent us the emergency vet because he could not tell if the issues were neurological or if she was having seizures. He also wanted us to get a baseline cortisol reading which he was unable to do in-house.
Off to the ER vet we went. They ran the cortisol and it came back low. Prior to today we had been having some issues with her medication for Cushing's. The cortisol levels came back in the dangerously low range at the last check-up so we halved the dosage of her medication. Based on the cortisol test tonight, it seems like the levels have not raised as much as we would have hoped. Vet also did an X-ray of her abdomen because it felt very tense. The x-ray revealed a mass below her liver. We don't know what it is but the vet did not like how it looked. They gave her a cortisol injection and IV fluids and they kept her overnight as it was the only way to transfer to a consultation with the internal medicine specialist in the morning.
They let us see her before we left. They had her out on a blanket in the back area. We kissed our girl goodnight and went home. We're hoping to get better answers in the morning. Please send some good thoughts for our girl if you can.
