Suggestions for low ash puppy food?

So bummed- the vet said to change the food 15 week old Pearl has been on that the breeder used due to struvite crystals and high urine ph... kind of a long story but I will keep it short. She is on Canidae chicken and rice ALS which seems to be fine for her but Vet thinks the crystals and ph level are dietary/genetic etc rather than due to uti- he wants a new food then re-check in two weeks or so. he didn't suggest a dog food when I asked- said maybe Cal Naturlas, Bilk-Jac but they don't have low ash when I checked. The Canidae is 6.6% from what I can tell but I need to check that... finding something appropriate with lower ash will be a challenge!

Unless you called Canidae, I don't see where you got the 6.6% ash for their Chicken and Rice ALS. I don't see them listing ash levels on their website.

The two lowest ash kibbles appropriate for puppies that I am aware of are:

Fromm Gold Large Breed Puppy at 5.9% ash
Dr. Tim's Kinesis All Life Stages at 5.8%

Both companies have excellent track records.

I got the 6.6% from another dog forum that listed some ash info but it may not be correct... I will look into both foods you mention- thanks!!!

Read this link struvite vs oxylate and diet change. Then discuss it with your vet or get a second opinion on going nuts trying different foods. I have gotten rid of high PH and struvites with crancaps (dbl dose for 2 weeks) and never changed food.

I know we spoke but please remind me if your pup has an RV (I get so many calls and emails its hard to remember). This is a first hearing struvites and hi PH can be genetic. I think your vet is grasping because they don't know what to do.... therefore suggesting a food change. And the fact that they don't even have a definitive answer as to what food to use tells me they are grasping.

Switch to Eukanuba Premium Performance. It did the trick in the one experience I had with a puppy with crystals. No supplementing with anything.
