We are trying to get Jed's CD, both in AKC and UKC and today we went to a UKC trial. He already has one leg from a few years ago (LUCK I tell you, I didn't think he was ready to pass). He had 2 trials and passed this morning but decided he was over for the 2nd trial later in the morning. Such a shame! :( But dogs do their own things.
So now he has 2 of 3 of his UKC CD legs. We'll try again next month!:ambivalence:

I think UKC is harder!! The main differences are there is a honor in the down position while another competitor is doing their heel on lead and the figure 8. Then the recall is over a jump with 2 people standing on either side. The 1 minute long sit, you leave the lead on (though I don't think the dog notices or cares).
The exercise that's gotten us NQ's 3 times now is the recall over the jump. That stinker Jed KNOWS it. I call "Jed FRONT" and he just sits there and stares at me. At that point, you already NQ'd. So I call him a second time, and he comes beautifully. His healing was horrible the 2nd time too, so it's just as well we didn't get a score.
OH, and UKC allows what they call a "Minimum" jump height. So like Jed's 23" at the withers. He should jump 22". He can, but he's also 7 years old so I would prefer he not jump that high. You can say you want the "minimum" and you would have to jump 16" in his particular case. Why it's an option, I don't know. I am always going to pick the lower jump height with my dogs. There is no reason NOT to, unless you are using it for a training ground for AKC CDX where you HAVE to jump the correct height.

Regarding the recall, Linus did that to me in the past quite a bit. It was because he was unsure of the sit stay versus recall, which apparently is quite common. If you think that he's unsure, I can tell you how we fixed it.
I think he just wants to travel with you again to another show! It's frustrating but some days they are just off. That recall over the jump would have been difficult for us at the CD level, especially with two people standing next to it.
He's a fussy dog. He never did well at conformation shows because he just turned off. We fortunately have a UKC show in June and in July. I'll get him through it.
