Was that a typo in this forum:image or does "barf" stand for something? I can't say it sounds real appetizing, but then again it's labs we are talking about here and I know they aren't picky.

Natural Raw Diet For Pets - Dogs Healthy Food & Pet Nutrition Products
LOL, I wondered too. Though dogs do happily eat barf, their own, the cats, apparently in Australia where the acronym originated it doesn't have the same unsavoury meaning it does here. Of course dogs would say it is savoury. :) When Oban was on raw it was BARF, as per our Vet.
It's basically feeding a natural raw diet. While I am not one of them, there are several here to do feed raw. There is a learning curve so that your pup gets proper nutrition and balance.
BARF = bones and raw food or biologically appropriate raw food
Lmao! Ahhh! :)
BARF is different than PMR (Prey Model Raw), in that those who feed BARF typically add veggies (pureed or steamed so that dogs can digest them). PMR is meat/bones/organs only, 80/10/10.
Sorry, that link I posted was not so good. It's for prepackaged raw food. When I fed BARF I bought raw meat and my own vegetables, prepared my own feeding plan to incorporate necessary nutrients over a month and ran it by Vet, who got us started on raw in the first place. To my mind pre packaged raw still means you are depending on a company to be honest and educated and adept about what they put in a packaged meal, just the same as relying on a kibble company. There have been recalls on pre-packaged raw just as there have been recalls on kibble. Of course there have been recalls on our own meant for human consumption meat too.
Thanks! :)
