Back To The Doctor
Nausea has been unrelenting. I have no appetite and when I do eat, have to keep a bucket handy. For the last few days some meals have consisted of only a couple of saltines. I lost 8 pounds and feel so weak. Went to my GP on the recommendation of the ortho. The good news, she is amazed at how well my hip is healing, flexibility and overall condition. She prescribed an antinausea pill to take before taking a pain med. Am slowly weaning off the pain med but do need it before a PT session and at bedtime so I can sleep through the night.
What a delight to be able to eat dinner. It was not much but more than I have been able to tolerate previously but it went down so good. Looked up the problem on the web and apparently it is not too uncommon, most often caused by the pain med.
If I can just get some energy back, I'll be able to do more of my exercises and get moving along to complete healing. I sit here with a relatively fully, warm belly and not a bucket in sight. YEAH!

Sending healing vibes. Understand (somewhat) about the nausea (I have migraines..) and also gerd which I have to be careful how I lay down (not too flat).

Did the doc say what's causing the nausea???

Oh, I'm so glad the anti nausea thing worked. That's a huge problem here with my husband. He can take exactly one pain med without covering the bathroom afterword. Good thing Thanksgiving is coming up. You can gain the weight back! :)

Glad you found a work-around and will soon not need the pain meds at all. It's really tough when the med for one thing causes something else.

Those pains pills are a blessing when you are in pain, the side effects are gruesome sometimes. I broke my leg and ankle 8 years ago and the ortho surgeon put me on percocet and vicodin because I had a lot of nerve and tendon damage with the injury. I was on them for 1 1/2 years and the constipation and nausea were worse than the pain. So I quite taking them on my own I as I felt I was getting addicted to them besides the side effects. The orthro Dr. was mad at me for stopping, but its my body and I know what I want and don't want So now I still hurt, but it is better than the meds. I hate taking ANY king of medication for anything. I would rather ruff it out. :image017:
Sending you quick healing MOJO and settling prayers.

I am really glad the med helped you. Not being able to keep fod down can cause a major challange to your body in other ways. I am thrilled your hip is mending so well.

Thanks all.
Not able to completely do without the pain meds especially for PT and I certainly don't want that to slow down, I've come so far so fast. Was actually able to keep down two pieces of toast this morning - yeah! Don't know if it is an added side effect, but the constipation has eased up too. I sure hope so, getting tired of that med and all the prunes, LOL.
No walking outside today, extremely windy with rain but I do have PT this afternoon. I so want to be able to start driving again but that will have to wait until I can get off the pain med; makes me a little loopy.

Good for your GP to prescribe the anti-nausea; eating is so important nutritionally and spiritually. I've known people who experienced both side effects you mentioned. Once they were able to wean off the meds both went away.

Glad you go some food to stay down Fran.
