hello, my not so little 12 week old koda weighs in at 27lbs. anyone else have a lab at that age weigh that much? my other two are no where near that at that age

Yep, Lark weighed 28 pounds at her 13 week vet visit. She topped out at about 65 pounds.
nothing wrong with the pup's weight...
He looks well proportioned...those are some big feet to grow into, though.
yes, his paws are bigger then my 80lbs black lab male!
Max weighted 29.2 at 13 weeks

I think Maverick was about 24.
Both of mine were that size, Sam a little bigger. They are both 80 lbs in good weight.

Oban was 14 pounds at 12 weeks. He's 68 pounds now and that's lean. They all grow differently.
I didn't raise my chocolate boy from puppyhood but I love seeing yours. Helps me imagine what mine could've been like at that age. Koda's adorable.

Very adorable! Mocha was 40 pounds at 14 weeks. He's 109# and 28" tall. People will say "he's a big lab" and I just think "he's just Mocha".
Gigi is 24 lbs at 12 weeks but her brothers are huge compared to her. so I think most are at 30 lbs.
Haha yea now Koda is just over 5 months and 56lbs. My female Haylee at almost 2 years old is a small 65lbs and Ajax my 1.5 year old male is 78lbs
Just got back from the vet. Rowan is 33.5 lbs at 16.5 weeks.

Gigi is 33 lbs at 16 weeks. She is the tallest chocolate lab I saw till we ran into a 6 month old lab pup at a park. he was skinny and tall . She has 3 other labs in her puppy play session and she at 4 months is taller.
maybe the American blood line grows taller and thin. No idea. ofcourse gigi decided that the 4 month golden retriever is a good place to sit. she sat right on him ....its either the german sheapard side or maybe her father was not a chocolate lab but a chessie retriever. we only met the female [the half golden lab ./german shepard ]
Is Gigi full chocolate lab or is she mixed with Golden Retriever/German Shepherd? German Shepherd pups can be quite tall depending on the line, same goes for Golden Retrievers
Gigi parents were male chocolate lab and a female golden lab,German Shepard mix. So she is mostly lab I think but some days she looks more like the German Shepard side. I call her my chocolate German Shepard. Having never owned a retriever it has been fun watch her get stuff to throw , swim and best of all throw a heavier sinking toy into the lake and watch her dive to get it . Even though we picked from 10 pups and got the 2nd smallest female. She tries to dominate all dogs. It was so hard to pick as they had not sold 3 of the females and 3 males. The males were huge
a four month old puppy is not "dominating all dogs". she's just rambunctious and brave.

i would recommend you read up on age appropriate exercise - if you mean you job with her on leash on pavement that' could cause long term damage to growing joints. You want to encourage free play off leash on softer surfaces until their joints are done growing (closer to 18 months of age). Walks are fine (on pavement) but they recommend approx 5 minutes per month of age (so definitely no more than a half hour at that age).
I cannot say if you shoudl "worry" or not without seeing the dog. but you want to address issues quickly to avoid having to re-program an established habit.
Teeth showing (alone) and rough play doesn't mean aggression or "dominance". it's just rough play and lab puppies are prone to playing like that. Are the socials at all supervised by qualified educated trainers? If so what do they say? It is normal for them to interrupt as to not overhwhelm other puppies but that doesn't mean your puppy is "bad" or "dominant" just too rough and needs to be interrupted and energy brought down.
Barking at people walking by is pretty normal dog behaviour. I would redirect/interrupt every time.
thanks , play time is monitored by her trainer and she has a bottle of water and some lavender oil to control rough play. she is getting better as she ages. She used to walk with her mouth open and grab everything moving, now she is better. Her trainer wants us to address it. She is the same way at home sometimes . But she was a weird sense of not doing it to my 5 and 8 yr old.
jogs/hikes usually in the woods and never on pavement off leash. I only walk with her on leash, when I jog she is off leash on soft ground and also its been in the 90s here so no pavement stuff other than our morning 20 minute walk on sidewalk at 7 am when it is in the 70s.
she does play with some neighborhood dogs if they are out with my neighbors during the walk. We did do some 1-1.30 hour mild hikes on flat ground last weekend. She was fine again I will scale it down , do not want to damage her. she got her lime disease booster today and weighed in at 37 lbs at 17 weeks. I can see her ribs even now. A lot different than the last dog we had which was 11 lbs fully grown.
You should really avoid forced exercise until she's done growing. Jogging, no matter the surface, is a forced exercise. And she is too young for walks/hikes that long.
i personally would not do a 1 to 1.5 hour hike with a puppy no matter how slow (ok i lie, if you covered very little ground and spend much of that puttering that's fine). just because a puppy CAN do it doesn't mean it's something they SHOULD do. The running off leash on soft surfaces is better but definitely very short spurts then walk. remember you have a baby. there will be tons of time for that kind of exercise when they are done growing.
Thanks Tanya I will watch it. She is so big that I assume she can handle it. I have slowed it down and it seem to help her crazyness. I assumed she is crazy because she has so much energy I think she is that way when very tired . I am starting to balance .today she is sleeping .yesterday she went for a few walks and as we had people played in the pool was outside playing all day with kids and guests . The whole a good dog is a tired dog I am realizing is not entirely true.

I been taking gigi to the dog park more as she is 10 months and is spayed now. She can go for 30-45 minutes and spends the next 2 days as a awesome dog. she goes to day care for once a week.I do walk her 2-3 miles a day when not snowing or wet not really want to slip and fall with my back. We work on training. just got the 101 dog tricks from amazon to work with her.
Thanks for the idea about the book. I found a used copy of the 51 puppy tricks on Amazon. We're trying to keep her busy with new things through the winter since we can't be outside as much. Looks like much of it is what we've done in obedience but maybe we can expand on what we've learned from the ideas in the book.Quote:
