Can a puppy develop over time an allergy to their food or is it something else?

Stella is 8mos old and has been on the same Pro Plan Puppy her whole life. In the last few weeks she's been much more itchy, especially around her legs, feet, bottom. There's no visible fleas, ticks, or red skin or hot spots. I'm wondering if it's a reaction to the summer grasses (she didn't seem to have trouble with spring pollen), in which case we have to wait it out, or if she could have out of nowhere developed a sensitivity to her food.

We see the vet next week for her monthly weight check/nail clip/flea&tick preventative visit so I'll ask her, but in the interim there's a lot of experience on this board that I wanted to check in with you all on your thoughts.

They can and do. However, usually not in the first year. They can though. A lot of time food allergies to something that they aren't born with don't develop until 4-5 years. So pretty rare for a pup. However a pup goes through a lot of body and hormone changes. Could just be itchy from loosing puppy coat and getting adult coat in also with shedding from heat. If there is not real hot spots or anything I wouldn't honestly be too concerned.

Instead I would look more for something new. New treats or something somewhere else, it is also mold season, possible mold somewhere? It could be seasonal environmental as this is the first year, so you probably wouldn't know for sure until next year.

Piper wasn't allergic to grass until this year and she will be three in September. This girl.:rolleyes: She's lucky she's so cute or I'd sell her to the gypsies. I told her she was ridiculous. Whoever heard of a dog allergic to grass! Good luck on finding out what Stella is having a response to!

Ditto Jeff and Piper's Mom. Try rinsing her off before she comes in the house after being outside. If that doesn't help then ask your Vet if you can try an over the counter anti-histamine to curb the itching. My Vet likes Reactine (Zyrtec for you?) for allergies and Benadryl for insect bites.

I would try rinsing her off when she comes inside, sounds more environmental to me, not particularly food related

She is also old enough to switch to adult food anyway so if you think its the food, switch her and see if it helps at all
