I comend you for taking in that pup. At 9 months they can look skinny, but they're not. Your dog is going through a growing stage where her body might be getting longer. That's not to say though that she isn't underweight, a picture would help alot with determining.

The dog food she is currenly on isn't the best stuff, but if thats all you can feed her then thats cool. If you can go with a higher quality dog food that isn't corn based, then I would reccomend that. As far as what kind, there are alot of good foods out there. Just look on the back of the bag and the first 5 ingredients. If it's starts off with some kind of meat (turkey, beef, lamb, fish, etc.) then that is a good sign. You'll also see some improvements in her coat in time as well. Make the transition slowly by adding the new food to her old then a total switch. However, again if you choose to stay on that food look on the back of the bag and make sure you are feeding according to the proportions suggested. Be consistant and you should see some weight gain and her getting back to normal size for her age. Good luck

Aot of vets reccomend this brand. Not saying that its bad at all, but there are alot of different brands out there and IMHO, are a lot better. You'll have to go with what works best for your dog in the end.

I'd actually recommend that you look at Eukanuba, over Iams.

They're made by the same company, but Eukanuba is their higher tier product, so it's got better ingredients in it. I fed my last boy Eukanuba and he did great on that food. I'd feed it again if I couldn't afford what I'm feeding now. I really liked the results we had with that product.

I feed Califonia Natural Chicken and Brown Rice Puppy... and it's kinda spendy. The price of that might not be right for everyone. Eukanuba is a great food for the price you pay. I think you'd be happy with it.

She looks pretty good to me, almost exactly what Abby (pictured below) looks like at 9 months. Glad you are giving her a good home

Hrm... she looks like she's built like Lucy.

I have had people laugh at me for this story, but I'm gonna share it again.

When Lucy came home, I took her to the vet to get her microchip and get her paperwork started with them, transfer vet records from previous vet... all that jazz. While I was in the office with the vet (who saw both Reilly and also sees Mugen) I said, "Should I try to put some weight on her? She looks thin to me."

She looked up and LAUGHED then she said, "She would look thin to you!" and explained that Reilly was one of the biggest Labs she's ever seen and Mugen is *very* stocky for a puppy. I'm not sure he will ever get lanky looking, not even in a growth spurt. She told me that Lucy was just petite and that she looked perfect.

I still agree with changing the food though. Purina dog chow is the nutritional equivalent of feeding her movie theater popcorn. She needs something better and you will feel better about it.
