    Dribbling urine

Dozer is now almost twelve weeks old and an absolute joy. We have noticed that when he is outside to go potty that when he pees he dribbles urine as he comes towards us for his treat (easy to see as the ground is snow covered, otherwise I might not have noticed). Initially I thought he was just excited and young and wanting his treat for being a good boy and going potty outside....but I have also noticed that when he comes inside from doing his business he will occasionally drip o few drops of urine. I have also noticed drops of urine on the floor outside of the crate he sleeps in a night, from when he is getting out I assume to go potty in the early morning. He is sleeping all night with no accidents. He is only our second puppy and Cooper did not have any issues like this. Any thought, should I be concerned, is this something he will grow out of?? Thanks for all your input in advance

1st a.m. urine sample to the vet to screen for UTI. Dribbling is common sign.

Thank you... I had wondered, but wasn’t sure. I’ll give the Vet a call and bring in a sample tomorrow morning

I called my Vet and described what was going on and they weren’t concerned at all stating that he was still young. We have been keeping an eye on him and have continued to notice dribbling after he pees outside as he walks to us for a treat, he dribbles when excited and I am still seeing dribble marks on the floor outside of his bedtime crate. I have noticed once that he dribbled a bit of urine onto the blanket he was sleeping on (I saw him leak as he stretched as he woke up). Twice now my husband has noticed a very smelly stain on his shirt after Dozer has been sleeping on him and you can smell the odour on Dozers tummy as well. I took a look at his blessing and noticed this stain on it.

Dozer is only my second puppy and Cooper never had problems like this. My gut tells me this isn’t something that he will “grow out of”. Any thoughts and advice is sincerely appreciated.

I would not ask my vet about a urine test, I would just tell them that you are going to bring one in and would like it tested. Then ask what they need from you, when, should you swing by and grab a sterile cup, etc. There may have been a communication issue between the two of you, so just be direct in your concerns and wants. If it's not a UTI, you could be looking at something like an ectopic ureter that requires surgery to the tune of about $5,000 (do you have insurance?).

You are right, perhaps it was a miscommunication. I will call tomorrow and tell them I will be bringing in a urine sample and stop by for a sterile container if that is what they require.

    Yes he has pet insurance

I had Dozer in to the Vet this afternoon. They took a urine sample and he does have a UTI (urine was positive for large amount of WBC and Cochi) He is antibiotics for 10 days and we will be postponing his next vaccinations until after the UTI has cleared. He has been having even more instances of dribbling and accidents in the house even though he has just peed outside.....poor little pup
He hopefully will be feeling better soon
