Aww, sorry to hear! Asher had a UTI at 9 or 10 weeks? Maybe it was 10-12 weeks? Anyway - I was struggling with his potty training overnight. I was getting up every 2-3 hours with him and I was still finding him soaked in urine. I adjusted his last meal of the day to earlier, sought out advice here. Then one day, he was laying on the living room floor on a piece of my exposed hardwood. I happened to look over at him and he pee'd in his sleep. At that point I knew something was wrong. Next day I collected the urine and dropped it off at my vet. Sure enough - UTI. After 24 hours of antibiotics -- he did not pee overnight. On the downside, he got awful diarrhea. I got some probiotics and it helped. Not sure about the metallic smell. I do remember thinking he smelled like puppy urine which to me was strong. So maybe the same?
After a full round of antibiotics our potty training got back on course. There was the slow down since he couldn't help the dribbles or slips. But after that first dose, he never pee'd overnight again. During the day, he would give me no notice that he needed to go. Even to this day, he will sometimes let it go to the point of near panic and then both of us are running out. For whatever reason, this guy does not like the bell.
Our big issue was pee'ing overnight so I knew when that trend stopped, his UTI was better. Also, at the end of the meds, I took another urine sample back in and they gave the all clear. I think once you have that, you can focus more on the corrections of potty training. I cut Asher slack during his round of meds since I wasn't sure if it was him or his UTI.
Best of luck and I hope it clears first round.
