So now that it has been done and if it incorrect what do I watch for? Will she get sick? Are the rest of her puppy shots and rabie shot not effective now? Will I have to get them redone? Wow I cant believe he gave her the shots knowing this. And we have a great relationship.

I don't think any of us have that answer, sadly. I suppose you could get titers done, depending on how big of a risk Rabies is in your area (thankfully it's not a problem here). In the meantime, I'd suggest doing all you can to help her immune system like using a good probiotic, MSM, B100 supps, fish oil/vit E etc.

I am very worried about my 2 pups who were handled the same way. And yes, I know it's frustrating... I'm sure with you on that one.

When did this happen to your pups? And are they doing ok?

They are only (almost) 7 mos. So it happened in ~April. The one pup has some incontinence issues, probably associated w/ the UTI that took so long to clear up, but the other (who just had one course of antibiotics) is apparently doing great.

I agree with the vaccine advice given. A lot of vets for some reason dont seem to follow this though, so don't think your vet is unusual for not. Do your research, learn from talking to the knowledgeable people on here, and don't be afraid to question your vet and insist on doing what you feel is best. Even if your vet might say otherwise. My vet doesn't typically follow a lot of the things I insist on, but at this point he knows I have done my research, and he is respectful and supportive of what I choose to do. And what's done is done, DON'T beat yourself up about anything....I think your pup is most likely going to be just fine. I handled Tux's puppy shots the same way b/c I didn't know better. He hadn't been sick but he got rabies the same time as his last DHPP. He was fine. Google Dr. Jean Dodds vaccine protocol, that is what i now follow

I would suggest tittering but not sure how long you should wait to do that, to determine if the vaccine did the job. You can email Jean Dodds for her expert opinion on what to do and when. Hemopet@Hotmail.com

I also have a pup in a pet home in Fla. that recently had DHLPP, Corona and Rabies all at once and had a huge reaction and had to be rushed to the vet. She recovered fine but it scared the crap out of the owner. I have educated him (as I did 8 years ago) and he is now on top of things and will stand up to his vet when necessary.

Our vet normally combines shots because it is a small town vet. Most people either will not follow through on coming back or do not want the extra trouble/cost of the return trip. I worked there a number of years ago and even though I travel about 20 mins to get there and there are a number closer, they will do what I ask. However, I have to ask or they will just do everything at once. If they want to keep your business and recommendation, they should be willing to do what you ask AND what is right for your pup.

That being said, I never realized it was a problem in the past with my other dogs and never thought twice about doing the combos and rabies at the same time. I have done a lot more research for our pup this time around and will be separating the last combo from the rabies. Hope Maggie continues to do well!

Years ago I didn't know it could be a problem and with Lynn I was actually lucky because her vaccinations were set apart by about six months: combo in early summer (once a year), rabies before Christmas (initially every year and later we started getting three year rabies shots). Rabies is law here, so you can't avoid it. Now with Mel the timing is rather unfortunate as she's supposed to get her combo AND rabies shots all in September. Having read something here, thank you for sharing your knowledge guys, and still remembering Lynn's reaction to rabies vaccination (her last two shots actually): swollen itchy earlobes desperate head-shaking, she wasn't herself and there was probably more that I didn't know about. Even at that time, didn't know about this forum then, I did some research on the Internet and found some info about possible reactions to rabies vaccine and found it a bit unsettling. So this year when I was picking up vitamins for Mel, I talked to my vet and insisted on setting the combo and rabies apart at least by two, preferably three weeks. He was a bit surprised saying that they normally do it all at once to save the people time and money, but didn't argue and said that if I didn't mind having to travel to the office twice and spending more cash it can certainly be done my way.
Well, that's exactly what I'm gonna do and all that there's left is to fine-tune the vaccination schedule for our two separate visits in September.

I'd do titters. From what I know they can be done 30 days after the vaccination.

ETA: Cookie has always got his rabies and booster vaccine at once, never had a problem. Since the boosters and rabies are given annually, he got this combo 4 times. He got his last booster when he was 5 though. Now I only vaccinate for rabies.

    MikeLynn,
Yes, that was likely a vaccine reaction. The problem is of course, that you don't know which one she reacted to if given all together, otherwise, your vet could pretreat her w/ benedryl.

If you know what vaccine brands your vet is using, the simple thing is to look up the label info online. My current combos per label state to be given at 2-4 wk intervals (the one it replaced said 3-4 wks). That applies not only to just combo boosters, but everything else (lepto, rabies whatever..). My lepto vaccs say 3-4 wk intervals. The vets I have spoken to at Merck and Pfizer have told me my 3-4 wk intervals between are really ideal, in their opinions. And they really stressed ONLY vaccinating 100% healthy pups, so if the pup isn't bouncing off the wall (even due to a growth spurt), wait a couple days and re-examine your timing. We only have one shot at puppyhood vaccines the way I look at it, so I want to do it as well as possible. I think too many (vets included) get on a calendar routine and just go with it. I did learn thru all this that my backup vet (further away, but has done all my OFAs and repro lately) won't give more than a 3 way combo at once after the first 2 combos as he says the respiratory stuff is covered by then. He absolutely won't combine lepto or rabies w/ anything. Guess who is going to be my "go to vet" from here on out when at all practical? I have lost respect for the ones working on their schedule of convenience. I want a vet who has my puppies' health first and foremost in their priority.
