So thrilled to hear about your Molly! And it must be a sigh of relief for you as well. They definitely make us worry when they aren't feeling 100%. The week will be over before you know it.

Maggie got the rest of her puppy shots yesterday and her rabie shot. Good to go for one year unless she has problems. She is doing better with her squatting. Been on Antibiotics for one week. One week to go. Feeling better.

I am glad that she is better. Glad that she won't be getting more vaccines anytime soon.
In the future, you may wish to consider delaying vaccines when a dog needs to be on antibiotics:Vet vaccinated a sick puppy.

And also consider separating the rabies shot from the other ones by a couple of weeks.

Glad to hear she is doing better. Not sure if you saw the sticky thread - my blog is back up and running again so you can see the pic to compare your pups vulva.

I had questioned our vet that we have had for 20 plus years about the rabie shot and he said it was ok for Maggie to have it with her puppy shots. I trust him to know what he is talking about. And she is not sick anymore that is why he gave her the shots. But she has to finish her antibiotics until they are gone.
Thanks Snowco I compared picture to Maggie and she does not have a recessed vulva. Yay!!
Glad to hear that you feel so strongly about your Vet. 20 plus years is a long relationship, So I would feel that all is OK with Maggie and her shots. Glad to hear that Maggie doesn't have an recessed vulva. That's a sigh of relief for you.

Before this board crashed, I posted about a similar situation w/ 2 of my puppy buyers whose pups got UTIs, were on antibiotics, yet still got vaccinations (not only just a combo but combo + lepto or combo + lepto + rabies which I never recommend).
In short, it is NOT recommended to vaccinate until at least 1 wk after the issue is corrected and pup is off of antibiotic. This info was given to me by vets working for the 2 major vaccine manufacturers whose products I use, so consult w/ whenever I have vaccine questions.
Not only can the vaccines interfere / change the way your pup's immune system deals w/ the infection, but also w/ how it deals with the vaccines. They may not even end up being effective. The immune system of a puppy is pretty weak, so we need to try to do everything we can to make it work as well as it can. I too have had long term relationships w/ my one vet but it doesn't mean you don't still have to be on guard. My other vet would not even think of vaccinating under those circumstances and further only gives a 3 way vaccine after the first 2 combos, and always does the lepto and rabies (and anything else) separate. I have a 15 wk old pup currently who should be well set on her combos, and I will give first lepto next week. Will do the 2nd lepto ~3-4 wks later and the rabies 3-4 wks after that. So far, we're good, but like you, I too have had UTI issues in the past and this protocol has helped immensely since I started giving my own shots on my schedule (other than rabies which has to be done by a vet). Good luck. UTIs are no fun for anyone.

Anne's right. The product inserts in the vaccine package of most or all canine vaccines have a statement that the vaccine is for administration to healthy dogs. If she is on an antibiotic, she is not yet healthy, is she? Here is one example:
American Veterinary Medical Association, Position Statements on Biologics, June 2001.
This product has been shown to be efficacious in healthy animals. A protective immune response may not be elicited if animals are incubating an infectious disease, are malnourished or parasitized, are stressed due to shipment or environmental conditions, are otherwise immunocompromised, or the vaccine is not administered in accordance with label directions.
That being said, don't beat yourself up. You did what you were told, with the best information that you had at the time. However, now you know more for the future.
