puppy limping

Oakley hurt her leg at puppy play class on Monday night. She was limping a little but never whined or anything. It was better the next day. Well last night she was racing around in my bedroom and suddenly stopped and started limping again. One of her toes looked a little crooked to me afterwards. She is still limping today but still not whining or even acting like it hurts. We can't figure out if it's her paw or her leg. Everything moves fine. Wondering if we should just let her rest it or take her to the vet. She is 4 months old.

Could be a broken or fractured toe? Or even a sprain?

I wouldnt go as far as dog shoes, but I would definitely take her in for a Vet check. This is really a important growth time for a Lab. They grow so fast I would want to know if there was actually a break and how to handle it with her being a pup. And if it's a sprain, maybe "forced" rest is just needed.

Poor girl. Labs truly play rough. Hope Oakley is feeling better soon.

Thanks, KAZ. Read that article and I'm taking her to the vet in the morning. In the meantime, she will rest in her kennel. Of course our vet was closed today and we are leaving for the beach early in the morning so our take off time will be delayed by a couple hours. Kids and dogs always seem to get hurt after hours or on a holiday! Better to be safe than sorry, though!

I remember when Bobby was a young pup, he was zooming around the house and accidently crashed into a chair. He yelped loudly and I encouraged him to come to me. He did with a limp. I freaked out thinking he might have broken it and dad was ready to take him to the vet. I calmed myself and used this video, Limping Puppy:What Do You Look For? - YouTube, for help. Turns out it was just a sprain so I put him in for forced crate rest. An hour or two later, he was fine.

If you are concerned, you can ring the vet and see what they say.

Thanks for the video. That is exactly how Oakley is limping but with no pain. Still this worried mom is going to take her to the vet in the morning!

I think it would be best to have the vet check her out, let us know how it goes. Paws crossed it's nothing major.

With a puppy it's always best to error on the side of caution. I think a vet visit is a great idea in this case. Let us know how it goes.

Isn't it always the way with kids and dogs and injuries after hours and holiday. Fingers crossed that if anything, toe is just bruised. Extended rest would help cure the bruise.

Check with the vet, they'll rarely cry unless it's REALLY bad.
