The vet increased his antibiotic (he's now up to 28.5 pounds so he needs a higher dose.) She still feels that it is some sort of upper respiratory infection and will work itself out. She says otherwise he is really healthy, so she's not concerned that it's more than that. She also said it could take up to three months to resolve, but hopefully won't take that long. Instead of giving him the steroids again, I opted for a codeine-based cough suppressant which I'll give to him at night when the coughing is worse. I think if he gets more sleep at night, that will also help him heal.

Ah, the joys of puppyhood. Sigh.

Hope you can get Diggity feeling better soon!
He’s already on a glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM supplement. Interesting about it controlling asthma!

Im glad the vet is on top of it. I sure hope he feels better soon.

No I was wondering if it might be an allergy.? Keeping my fingers and paws crossed and sending mojo that he feels better soon

    Thanks.

Dumb question, but can a puppy get an allergy this early in life?

I do trust my vet, so trusting she’s right.

It’s killing me to listen to him all night hacking his lungs out. I feel so bad for him. Not to mention I’m exhausted.

I had a friend who's puppy had severe allergies. I ll look into some homeopathic oils to see if I can find something that might help sooth him. Ill get back to you in the morning if I find something

Sending good thoughts for your puppy. You hate to see them with something like this at such a young age.

Do you know where he may have picked it up?

I did some research and found that these oils help suppress and sooth coughing eucalyptus, lemon, thyme, orange, frankincense, peppermint, lavender and rosemary. If you have a defuser Id try the peppermint oil first. See if it helps. I would probably do a blend of that and eucalyptus oil.

    Thanks.

No idea where he got it. Could be puppy daycare, training, encounters with other dogs on outings. He did get the kennel cough nasal vaccine, but that’s not always effective at prevention.

Awesome I will give that a try today. I do have a diffuser and I actually have several of those oils including peppermint already! Thanks!!
