I'm waiting for the day when he actually tries to pee ON one of my dogs when they're going. That WON'T be okay.
Diggity still squats to pee too, unless he is marking. Lol

Yesterday, to my horror, we were checking out at the dog training facility where we go, and he marked the corner of the counter. They said that is a favorite marking spot and not to worry. But then as we were walking out, I stopped to talk to another trainer and he marked the corner of the wall next to the door! They said the same thing...that is a popular marking spot. When you say this is a training issue, what do you mean? Is there something I can do besides catching him while marking and telling him no? I hope this doesn't happen again, but I want to nip it in the bud for sure!

On a positive note, we spend several hours at a friend's house today. They have two labs (male and female) and he didn't mark once in their house, thankfully. I don't think they mark either, so maybe he marked yesterday because of other dogs who had already marked those spots.
Yes, like other said - just be vigilant in the training center or other places you suspect other dog have been marking. Usually they sniff first so if you see him even thinking about it, tell him no and give him something else to do (like you mentioned a sit stay). He'll figure it out. At this age he is still learning the rules and from his perspective, that spot is fair game as others have been using it. Eventually he'll learn not to mark indoors. I never minded mine marking outdoors (my intact girls will mark outdoors as well, but they squat to do it) but they also know the difference between an attentive "heel" and a neighborhood stroll. Marking is NOT okay while working but is while strolling.

LOL, Oban started leg lifting at 8.5 months. OH was so proud of him. Then at 9.5 months we went to test for his CGN, met my friend who was the agility judge, and he lifted his leg on her! She just laughed, said he missed her bare leg, said there was dog pee all over the ground (it was outside) and likely pee was splashed all up and down her legs, and Oban wouldn't be the only dog to pee on her, or the youngest. I learned to watch and he tried it again a few times, but we got over it. I do still have to watch at the Vet's office where other dogs have peed, either on the vertical corners, or on the floor right beside them.

I had been thinking of moving on from my dog walker when she came to drop 6 month old Bubba off one day and told me that he hadn't gotten a walk that day because before they left the trailhead (she would take a pack to the beach), he lifted his leg and peed near her and some got on her shoe, so she put him back in the car. Yeah, must have sucked to have gotten some pee on your shoe but you were outside and you are a dog walker. Bubba doesn't know why he is sitting in the car for 1.5 hours while all the dogs play, and I would like my $50 back please!

What? There's no logic to her actions. She had pee on her shoe and she walked anyway, why not take Bubba? Did it not occur to her that leaving him in her car might have meant pee in her car too? Nuts.

Yeah, I actually fired her that exact day after she told me the story.
