    Question on Maggie's stool

Hi, Maggie's BM this morning had thick mucus in it. I called vet and receptionist said she probably has an upset stomach. But she acts fine. Any thoughts on this?

Did she eat anything other than kibble? Grass even. Maybe a rawhide or other chew? Have you changed foods recently?

Was her stool soft or hard? Was it bloody?

This happens and it is probably not a big deal but if it persists then you will want to bring in a stool sample to your vet and have it checked for parasites. In fact, with a puppy I would probably drop one off if you are concerned. Charlie once had coccidia and I had no idea. The vet said he could have gotten it just from eating dirt at the dog park (picking it up off his ball or something). His stools were solid and consistent, we just happened to find out because we dropped a stool sample off as a routine check up.

Usually if I get something like this I will add a probiotic to my guys' food. Though Burton has a pretty solid gut and nothing is usually out of the norm for him, Charlie is not so lucky.

Oh and her stools are always on the soft side. Probably due to teething.

The only time one of ours, Bandit, had mucus in his stool was when he had giardia. Biggest thing that clued me in was the smell, it's horrible. Once you smell it, you never forget.

If it continues take a sample in. It could be upset stomach but can also be a sign of parasites.
