I always carried an acceptable chew item around with me so the second Abby put her mouth on something she shouldn't I could immediately redirect her to something that was acceptable.
Abby has had to do something to earn nearly every meal we have given her in the 5 months we have had here. When she was 8 weeks old, it was a few sits before she got her bowl. Now she probably gets up to half of her kibble as "treats" before she eats the leftovers. It makes mealtimes a little involved, but it remind us to work with her several times a day and she was pretty motivated to learn with the food involved.
